It's almost like my local Best Buy doesn't want to make money

I think it depends a lot on which Best Buy you go to. You can't walk into the one near me without having three employees swarming you at every turn.

But from what I understand, this location is one of the most profitable in the country. I'm sure that helps.

I ended up ordering a TV from Amazon. I was entertaining the idea of driving to another city to get one from Best Buy and didn't have it in me.

However, I went in on Friday to buy a receiver and it was $250. $195 on amazon, according to my phone, so I left the store. I then go to bestbuy.com and it's $205 online with in-store pickup

Absolutely this. I never spoken to an employee at Best Buy who knew the first thing about their products. i almost miss the days of commissioned salespersons.

BTW, I have a Best Buy in my neighborhood and one walking distance from my office.

no, then u got pressure sales. the only thing i want from a minimum wage slave is prompt check out, or ability to do something simple like check if something is in stock. i really don't expect them to know what they are talking about in terms of specs. and of course i don't want them to sell me on stupid shit like store credit cards/warranties and other nonsense.

I had the exact same experience at Sears in '08, I had $1400 from my tax refund looking to buy an LCD, they were actually fairly competitive in prices but sales people were chatting on phones and seemed uninterested in helping me, F-it, I went to Sams and bought a "47 Phillips an hour later.
