I love hearing people talking about NYC as a shithole. It's great. They're almost always from the suburbs where the crime rate is usually higher. NYC's a big area, dude. There's, what, 20 million people in the metro area? Try taking the crime rate of the nearest neighborhoods to your own until you get to 20 million people and then compare.

So paying twice as much for an apartment vs a house with land and a workshop is a good thing?
Also I got the crime figures for my town (last reported year i could find) you can multiply it to adjust to NYC population. Murder=0 Rape=0 Arson=0 Robberies=1 (16.3 per 100,000)

I can do that too. Take the crime rate of midtown Manhattan and you'll probably get the same number. See my point?

Some people LIKE living in big cities. Fucking shocker, ain't it? I grew up on a farm overseas and I loved the farm life. Getting up at 5am with the roosters yelling "Fuck youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu." I had an outhouse that required walking up a hill to get to. I shot a gun at the age of 4, hitting a fox that was supposedly breaking into our chicken coup. A double-barreled hunting rifle that my father had to hold while I aimed and pulled the trigger, hitting the fox in the tail and watching it whimper away.

There was no crime there. Do I miss it? Yes. Could I live there now? No chance in hell. I'd much rather live in a place where shit actually happens then bore myself to death. Fuck suburbia.

Yep, nothing to be nervous about in Texas.

But yeah, life in the city sucks. Racing sailboats up and down the Delaware River as the sun sets behind the Philly skyline, then meeting my gf for some nice Italian food... or French, or Greek, or Dim Sum, or whatever we feel like. Playing ice hockey on Saturday mornings at any one of a half-dozen rinks. Beer gardens, Fringe Fest, ride bikes up Fairmount park and have a picnic and watch the UPenn/Drexel rowing teams racing down the Skuylkill River.

Who would want that kind of life? :D

Edit: and we can trade cigs for BJ's, if that's not the icing on the cake...

I was in the mall parking garage once years ago and got the same offer from some highschool girls.

Maybe you can dig up the thread where I sold that home and moved out of the city while you're at it. That's partially why I have such a hatred for city living. I'm back in the country now for good.

Because he was all tattooed up, looked like he needed a fix and just decided to go for broke on the next person he saw? The guy sounded really desperate but I took offense to it. Besides, it took me 20 minutes to find parking and I was looking enough to find one only 2 blocks away. I had a smile on my face but the freak brought back the anger. Once he saw that I had no interest in his proposal he ran east (presumely towards the large park).

Except for the robbery, that's not statistically different from NYC. Remember, you can't murder only part of a person.
