Arg, what total losers. I've restocked my food supply. I put it in the fridge. Its 2am, I'm tired and goto bed. Its 3am, lots of noise in the kitchen, and then I smell something. Its rice cooking! WTH, I think. Geez, at 3am too... Last time they cooked rice at 3am, they hosed my $100 Zojirushi NS-JCC10 Neuro Fuzzy 5-Cup Rice Cooker. They claim that it broke since I used it too much.

I dont want to goto the kitchen and see the fate of my new Zojirushi rice cooker. They dont ask to use my rice, my cooker, my wok (yea, I'm asian if you didnt notice). Sigh, I'm being schrooge alright, but this stuff been happening all year. I usually would have no problems with letting them use my rice, food, and tools, but they are:

1.) Wasteful - Cook 2 cups of rice, leave 1 cup of cooked rice in the cooker, either with the lid open and still plugged in or just open. Rice is dry, useless.
2.) Dirty - Dont even clean my tools
3.) Inconsiderate - I cook for myself, since I buy my food myself (I have no car so I have to bike to the store, erg) and they just help themselves to the food I buy.
4.) Noisy - Its 3am, I'm tired, and need to wake up in a few hours again to work.

Oye I predict I will wake up, see my precious Zoj dead from improper use, and then cry over wasted food (I dont waste food, period.)

A lesser man would beat the crap outta someone if some stealing occurs. What would a better man do in this situation? Suggestions? I've tried the locking up the dry food in my room, but my room slowly became a pantry instead of a room, with my closet turning into a cubbord. I gotta keep all my drinks in my mini-fridge or else they get drank. This stinks, this will be probally my longest rant ever. Now I cant sleep, I'm going to work early.

I guess the effect of having a 50 lb sack of rice in the kitchen makes them feel that "i wont notice one cup missing".

Hey, sorry to go off topic, but what is the difference between a $10 brand X rice cooker and a $100 Zojirushi rice cooker? I eat alot of rice at my dorm and I was wondering if i would notice any difference. Can you post links to any reviews/comparisons between the $100 cooker and a regular one? Thanks :)

Done the talking. Got the "OK, sorry." answer
Presented the bills. Got my $5/cup I was charging for my rice + tools rental
Kick them out. - We kinda signed a 1 yr lease together.
Sue them - Its too petty to sue over a matter less than $100, I'd be just as bad as suing McD's for accidently spilling coffee on myself.

BTW, I can somewhat relate to the feeling. Except that I deal with my siblings so most of the time I don't really care or just have a chat with them. They know better than to abuse the rice cooker too, although I really do not like the way they use the kitchen. Not to mention that we don't have a car either so most of the time I get pissed at them has something to do with groceries, although otherwise I get along with them just fine.

Nobody should ever mess with the groceries that was not driven home.

My personal review :)

Plenty of difference. $10 Brand X probally doesnt have a nice keep warm function, which can keep the rice nice and warm for hours after cooking, usually for 3-5 hours at most before it starts schorching it. Brand X probally doesnt have a nice non-stick bowl, or a neato timer on it (for the geek out there). And besides, I broke two BrandX cookers (or was it not me, hmmmmm) in 3 months. Funny, my Zoj's, high quality product, lasted 2 mo, but thats not just me using it. Roommates treating it like a "rental" you can say.

Brand X probally uses a glass lid, which doesnt seal in enough steam to allow for nice and fluffy rice. Steam is everything when cooking excellent rice. Locks in more flavor too.

My cooker , I hope still alive

My last two cookers which are now RIP.

Never used a $10 rice cooker but I got a $300 (CDN, btw) Zojirushi and the thing is a beauty. I wouldn't use any other kinds unless. I justify the cost because if the homemade rice tastes good, I will less frequently buy food (which easily adds up to more than $300 in less than a month). Rice also lasts longer too. At one point, we left it on for 70+ hours and it was still in decent (edible to my picky tongue) condition.

Prior to that, we had another Zojirushi model that lasted for more than 10 years.

Funny, I leave mine on for more than 5 hours and stuff gets dry and slowly burns.

Interesting. Just saw the pic at Amazon and yours looks almost exactly like mine. I think that I got the bigger model, though.

You are the TOKEN asian bitch.

What you should do is start using their stuff. A "better man" would've have assumed the role of Alpha male the first week. You didn't, and you're the bitch:)

Unbelievable, isn't it? The garbage is overflowing but rather than dumping it outside just downstairs, more garbage gets piled up elsewhere. (i.e. by the counter, dining table, floor, etc.)

Acutally, my roommates take the trouble to start a new sack, hang it off the handles of the trash bin. Next thing I know, theres 4-5 sacks just surroinding the can. Then we got the usual fast food cups, wrappers littered in the living room. Friends come over, think I'm a slob. :(

This used to piss me off so much when I lived in the frat house.

your only anser is to

A: lockup all your food included in thsi would be buying your own refridgerator if you wan to store frozen food, and keep the key on yourself
or
B: get over it, it is college this sucks but, that is just the way it is going to be as long as you live with other peeps and are in college, at least I assume your in college, if this is happening and your not in college I suggest you get rid of your roomates because they suck

Stop being passive-aggressive and going on ATOT to complain when you should put your foot down. Other than that..you going to have to take it. Be a man and get crazy and tell them to stop using your sh*t or else you start locking everything away.

Ding ding ding - we have a winner. They're not just going to magically stop stealing your food. Lock it all up. And as bonus, start eating their food until you've eaten your old rice-cooker worth.

In short - stop being such a little bitch. :p A lesser man would beat the crap outta somone. A better man would beat the crap outta both.

You have already ask them to change, and they won't.
That approach will fail in the future.
Move your cooker into your room and ask to change rooms.

It doesn't matter if you like the stuff they have... use it anyway. If it's ramen, make a bowl, and then leave it sitting in the living room. As far as the trash situation, start dumping it in their bedrooms if they leave the door unlocked. As soon as the lease is up, start looking for new people to live with or start looking for another place to live.

Why not give them, for a christmas present, one of those $10 dollar ones and let them use it. Then if it breaks tell them tuff luck.
