It's just a game. Just feels more addicting because of obligations to guilds and real people online. Oh, and the gear is presented in such a colorful way that it makes you greed for it a lot.
Play it if you are bored. Don't let it become a problem.

For sure. Oh how I miss the days before server transfers... Back when you knew most players/guilds and knew that they actually had a history with their character (leveled it on their own). Back when a new epiced out player wouldn't just randomly show up on the IF bridge because they were bored of their last realm. World PVP was at it's finest. Blocking BRM, WPL pvp, STV arena matches, SS/TM Hillsbrad battles and epic Felwood pvp. You could actually respect certain guilds and players that were out there for the sake of pvp and not rushing to complete their next daily quest.

Not to mention the raiding side and how Blizzard didn't try so hard to please the casuals like currently. It was probably a great business decision by Blizz to change it, but I still miss the epicness of rocking full T2 Dragonstalker on my hunter while most others were barely touching their T1 set. As it is now, I could play maybe 5 hours a week and have the EXACT SAME looking gear as the nerd in a top raiding guild who puts in 35 hours, only of a slightly different color shade. Boring....

I was probably what you could consider an addict at one point. Thankfully I didn't have to force myself to quit the game, Blizzard made it easy with WotLK. BC was tolerable, but now it just keeps getting worse.

Hillsbrad PVP was the best! I remember endless grinding for my first character's AV dagger... as it turns out everything that came afterwards was shit.

heh... i remember one SS/TM pvp war that lasted longer than an AV game (3 days) ... you'd go to sleep... wake up 8 hours later... and the same people were still battling it out.... go to work... come back home 9 hours later.. only to see the SAME people still fighting it out.

Also if you got bored you could go east one zone to gank level 30s to 40s or north to gank level 40s to 50s for awhile.

yea, the nerdiness of knowing everyone you were playing with, and against for better or worse is something i miss and isn't really existent anymore it seems.

Had to quit cause of time constraints, but if i free up some time, I think i'd like to play again.

Been playing WoW for like 3 years now?

Currently in a playing mood, but I have weeks/months where I don't login to play (only to keep up with the guild chat)

Casual play ftw!

I used to think the same - I'm still not into the lore or any dungeons and dragons whatsoever. I don't read any of the emotes - I skip entirely through them if possible. I got into it after doing the free trial for a few days - I didn't want to commit to $15/mo. just because everybody was doing it. Where WoW gets me is the fun factor in working towards goals and achieving them after some hard work. I'm not talking about running the same thing repeatedly until an item drops for you - just being able to spend the time doing something at the end of a few days you've attained your goal, whether pvp'ing for gear, doing a tradeskill to make something, or farming for materials to make something. Just like any game really. Being able to talk to other people and getting to know them is a good bonus. Hell, I'm playing Sim City 4 at the same time right now... same goals but it feels a lot more empty. I go for the gaming and stay for the people.

Did you quit or what? Context, brah

idk.... I was having guild drama last week so I decided that I'd take some time off.

I kinda want to log-in and raid and feel guilty for not playing; I don't know how much of that is actual desire to play versus addiction, though it's not like I'm doing anything more productive with my time (spent the night neffing, chatting on facebook, and catching up on my netflix)

word of advice. GTF(Outside) and see the wonders of the world like the Sun.

I'm in the same boat as you OP. Seriously considering just uninstalling. Granted, I typically cut my playing time by at least half once the warmer spring/summer weather hits anyway.

I quit raiding a few months ago. I was tired of it for a month or so before quitting, but I kept playing because I had friends playing with me. Once my friends quit I was done. Killing the same bosses each week got old really, really quickly.

I did make some new characters on other servers, but I can only stand to play in 15 minute intervals. And only on saturday or sunday mornings, while it's too early to do anything else.

I'm going through that right now :( We made a guild with friends to have fun running raids on weekends, all these goofballs got in somehow, acted like 5 year old idiots, and everyone got mad and left.

Now the same group of friends I started with are all sitting here saying "WTF just happened?"

Raiding stopped being fun after blizz made all the gear purple.

You need orange gear ;)

I haven't played in over a year but I agree about the purple gear. I think it would be great if it was only possible to get maybe two or three sets of "purple gear" and the rest would be greens/blues. Take old school WoW, when doing those 40 man raids, most people had blues/greens and a few lucky people had some purples but they were only Tier 1 pieces.
