Got a call early in the morning from a lady down at our San Diego branch office. She said she couldn't log in to the computer because it was locked. People lock their Windows account quite often with too many incorrect tries so I figured that's what happened here. Here's how the rest of conversation went:
Me: Does the message say that your account has been locked?
She: Yes
Me: Ok, give me your extension and I'll call you back when it's been unlocked.
She: two-zero-two-zero
Me:
Ma'am we use 3 digit extensions. You gave me 4.
She: Oh yea. two-o-two
Me: Ok, I'll call you back.
Me: Ok, it's been unlocked. Can you try it again?
She: No, it still won't let me in.
Me: Try it one more time and type it slowly this time.
She: Nope.
Me: Alright, I'll go ahead and reset your password. Hold on.
Me: Ok, it's been reset. Are you ready?
She: Yes
Me: It's lower case 'a',1,2,3,4,5,6,*
She: It says I have to change my password.
Me: Great, go ahead and change it.
She: It says my password didn't meet the requirements.
*I remind her of the requirements
She: What's the old password again?
Me: Lower case 'a',1,2....
She: Is that an uppercase 'a' or lowercase?
:Q
She: No it says user name or old password incorrect.
Me: What did you enter for the pw?
She: a12345*
Me: Ma'am you forgot the 6
She: Oh. But I thought you said minimum of 8 characters. That's only 6.
:Q
Me: That's 8 with the a and the *.
*She tries again and she's repeating the password back as she types
She: uppercase a,1,2
Me: Ma'am it's a lowercase a
She: ok, lowercase a,1,2,3,4,0,6,*
Me: Ma'am there's no zero. It's 4,5,6,*:|
She: It's saying the passwords don't match.
Me: Did you type it one more time in the last box?
She: Yes
She: a,1,2,3,4,7,6,*
Me: It's just 1 to 6. There's no zero or seven.:|
She: It's saying the account is locked again.
So I get her supervisor to login, give me the IP address, and then login remotely to see what the hell is she doing wrong. After 2 more your pw don't match error I said fvck it and issued her a simple as simple could be pw. Her supervisor wanted to see if she can login with the pw I gave her and amazingly she got in with it. It was then that I remembered she was the same person my associate was helping with logging in when she first started. It took him 30 minutes to get that done.
