<< Typical...

I don't have much use for one as I don't live in a city, but I sure as hell want one.

For one, think of how much $ you would be saving. Consider all of the costs that go into owning a car (including initial purchase and gas!), consider how environment-friendly this thing is.

<< OR...... I can get out of bed a hour or two earlier, drag some heavy awkward two wheeled device out of my house, walk downstairs and warm the thing up then drive at the speed of a slow jog all the way to work - most likely without my beifcase and Laptop. >>

Why would you have to get up an hour or two earlier? Heavy is not yet known, awkward it certainly is not (did you read the article or just look at the pretty pictures?), yeah, you walk downstairs anyway, warm the thing up? WTF are you talking about? It's electric! Do you warm up your lamps?! 10mph is a SLOW jog? Alright olympic sprinter! :D Some of the fastest marathon runners run at about 10mph for the 26.2 miles that they run. How do you normally walk with your briefcase or laptop? Same applies here, hold it, put a strap around your shoulder, whatever.

<sarcasm>YAY! Lets resist change and make no progress from ruining our planet! I hate being practical with things - let's all sit in traffic for 2 hours! :D</sarcasm>

Ignorance is bliss...I'm asking you, is it? :|
>>

It's been written that it weighs 65 pounds and that some "lifting" will need to be done. And yes, 10mph is a slow jog for me! I use to run.

Also, what is to protect all the sensitive computer equipment from damage in the event of a collision with objects such as wall, curbs, etc? I can see these scooters very sensitive to collisions or damage, thus people will not be too pleased when they get the bill to repair the damages as a result of a accident or minor collision.

well... i dunno. don't you think there will be an intermediate step? I mean we didn't go from records to cd's in one step.. there was cassettes in there too... i could see IT being a logical step if we would get beyond our preconceived notions of the necessity of an automobile in the city. Ok, maybe the US is too wealthy to bother with something like this, but i could see it catching in on in Japan, or maybe Europe.

In Asia, there're tons of scooters on the street. And the average is 50-60mph, wow IT is going to change that. LOL

A long time ago in Computer City or another retail place, they had this skii game type demo.
There was only a little pad to place your hand on, in the shape of a hand with small metal sensor plates.

You put your hand on it and thought about start, and you would start your ski run.
To move you had to think of moving left or right.
Was rather cool at the time.

You people are a bunch of IDIOTS. No one's asking you to buy one...just appreciate the genius that went into the design of this thing. It could lead to other advancements, it's merely a stepping stone. Of course it's not going to take over cars...HE NEVER SAID IT WOULD! It was the fvcking media hyping it up the whole time. You dumbasses are either:

a) really freakin stupid. you have no idea who this man is do you?
b) jealous
c) brain dead

I can think back in our history when many other inventions were laughed at. Your minds are closed up tighter than your own asses, just shut up and wait til you actually know something ya bunch of useless dimwits.

ok, i'm done. :)

Only flying automobiles will replace it not scooters.

We won't be seeing flying automobiles anytime soon. Just imagine when one breaks down and lands on someone's house. Or accidents in the sky, and the wreckage falling to the ground. Nope, not even in my grandchildrens lifetimes(I'm only 21)

Calm down. Yes, the guy is a friggin genius and he has created an engineering/science marvel; but I don't care if it was Einstein who made up this fancy scooter, it'd still be a waste. Why can't geniuses work on something real, like a way to dispose of nuclear waste or something....

about flying cars... as long as we are a gravity based, earth-bound species, flying cars are incredibly impractical. but if we ever colonize space, then it would happen.

Shadowhunter...christ!!! Calm down when there's people like you?! All these inventions are stepping stones like I said...this is a true advancement IMO and it's just scratching the surface of what could come of it...this is my point!!

I wouldn't buy one of these strange things, I'd rather drive a car!

KAMI, your method of argument astounds me. Teach me oh master. ;) though i do agree with you. I think it will be interesting to see how this all plays out. will this be a factor in further city planning?

I agree with kami. The stabilization mechanisms and the method of control is really interesting and will probably be implemented in future inventions that we can all use. The media, however, has blown it out of proportion. Actually, scratch that, I really don't think its "the media"'s fault. Where did all of you hear about this besides AT, and the links provided by AT members? Yeah, that's right...the majority of the US has never heard of this, never had the anticipation, never heard the rumors that we have. I think alot of people will be surprised and impressed by this instead of let down as many of the posters here seem.

I'm not doubting the advancement, and hopefully it IS a stepping stone. But its a stepping stone with almost zero useful function. Cassette tapes brought higher quality sound on the way to CDs as a stepping stone. This is a toy scooter whos only real-world function is some rich guy going "oh cool", buying one, and never using it. This is certainly NOT going to change the world, and if it does with the technology it spawns its still 20 years away for that.

yes, i wish someone could do this. if they ride it around we could all be in for a big suprise. i dont think it's really hit anyone yet at just how incredible this thing is going to be. and i agree with kami, dont sell it short. it's no regular sc00ter, and it, imo, does have the potential to change life for a lot of folks.

I just checked GMA's website. They say between 7 and 9. Well, that's a big help :)

If it had zero uses. Then why are the USPS, FedEX, Forest and Wildlife Department, and even the DoD going to give it trial runs in Jan/Feb? It will be good in warehouse that require alot of walking. Would be better than driving in downtown areas. Id have alot of uses for it, everywhere I need to go is within 5 miles of me, and well Im to lazy to walk or bike(dont even own one). Maybe when the prices come down.. Of course Id still have a car/truck but, for everyday commuting I could use it...

Buddy, try to get this through you incredibly thick head. Just because YOU don't like it, doesn't mean it'll flop. Personally, I'd be very interested in one. I don't know if you from some small hick town, but where I'm from, I zoom right past cars with my bike during rush hour. It sure as hell beat paying $4/day for public transit.

Yep, but aperantly, some people (like ShadowHunger) cannot comprehend the fact that they are not the centre of the universe and that their needs are not the same as other people's.
