Had a message the other day the the internet was down at this school, I had set up the proxy server. "see what you can do with it from your end".

look at it this way, now you have something to talk about in your podcast.

I thought about bringing it up in the podcast, but I just dont know if it's really related. We'll see. I thought about having a rant section...

They blame everything on automatic windows updates here.

"The problem started in Outlook, Explorer, Windows, etc. ever since that damn stupid update asked me to reboot."

I hate IT and I just started my career.

just another day in IT...

I wish my users were smart enough to even USE google

No shiznit. I get tickled when someone asks me to fix some problem. I go to their machine, with them watching, and go to google, type in the problem, find the answer in the first one or two hits, and just give them a dumb look and walk off

You're the kind of champ everybody likes to deal with then? 😛 Why not just help them out, point them in the right direction instead of being arrogant about it?

Sometimes it gets overbearing especially if the fix doesn't pertain to work or if the problem is out of your hands.

Heh... I had a user tell me that she got a can of compressed air and was spraying down her keyboad... It took several seconds for her to notice that she was using WD-40! 😀

So, I'm working away on a migration project and a user comes to my cube:

<User> I'm having such problems today! I need you to listen to me because no one will listen to me!
<Me> Oh yea? Ok, what's going on?
<User> Well, I cannot get to Google at all.
<Me> Really?

...at this point I turn around, load up my browser and go to www.google.com with success. I turn back around and look at her:

<Me> Well, everything appears to work fine here. Lets go take a look....

We walk over to her desk and she sits down.

<User> Look! Watch! No one believes me! (types in address in Start Button > Run, browser loads up, and our filter catches it blocking access with a warning page). SEE! SEEE! >:-/

<Me> What the....that's odd. (I sit down, load up her browser and type in "google.com". The page loads up fine)
<User> What did you do here?! What did you do to my account?
<Me> Woa woa, hold on one second. Sit down and type in the address again with the browser. (the user does so and again the proxy filter warning page comes up)
<User> WHAT IN THE WORLD! Is my internet down? See, you've probably done something to my account! Are you guys watching me?
<Me> *sigh* *slip hands under blouse, squeeze boobs once*, "HONK!", *squeeze boobs again*, "HONK!".
