Crystal report is clueless, people who want IT gone are clueless. IT people do all the stuff not because they are the only one who knows those stuff, it's because you have to have some kinda control in place in an organization.
Anyone who think end users should have access any data they want in this age of Sarbanes and Oxley is a moron and don't know how business work. IT people do what they do because not everyone should be able to install Visio on their desktop and not everyone should be able to pull up a report they are not suppose to see. We all go through IT to make sure there is a check in place to make sure nobody gets what they are not suppose to.
