I will let you get the first one (joke)....I need better boards then are currently out so I will be waiting until I see something good....PLus my current rig is not likely to get beat by the conroe unless I can get a woodcrest together by then...

I can hold out until end of August...not the end of the world for me....

hey duvie, you may not remember me but you were one of the ones who helped me with my current rig.

Nice CPU rig you got there. I'm hoping to try something like that myself. Hopefully AMD 'reverse HT' will be big.

We won't. I'll be getting the E4200, you guys can all fight over the E6600's ;)

I don't spend over $200 for a processor, and I won't be starting now just to get some extra cache. I'll make up the performance difference one way or the other.

early benches show that the cache is part of what's making core 2 duo so fast.

I'll be going after the $160 X2 3800's cause new mobo + new RAM + new CPU = more money than new CPU. I think supplies will be very tight for the first two months after the official release.

That's why you pre-order now. I just did this morning - got my E6600 coming from a reputable source that hasn't had billions of pre-orders yet.

lol go for the E6700 is what I'm doing. 10x multi is soo much easier... actually I probably won't. Depends on how much money I can get in between now and August.

The vast majority of chips will be goign to the big distributors who will probably put the middle of the road Conroes as their default chips, the E6600 and E6700 are probably gonna be sold alot less than the 2MB cores. OF coruse Intel probably accounted for this and made less so now you are all screwed again :p.

I just want to build a fast, quiet work machine so a slower conroe is fine for me.

I might even order a Dell for a change since this is just for work. I built a X2 4200+ / 7900GTX gaming system earlier this year that's fast enough for me.

I'd also be happy with a 35 watt X2 3800+ work machine if those lying paper-launch unprintables at AMD were really shipping any :|

Well, if I do get a Conroe (e6600) for one of my planned builds (planning two this summer) I'm going to wait till towards the end of August I think. That way supply will have a chance to catch up to demand and prices should be somewhat stable by then. Also other components that support Conroe and work with it (mobo and ram) will be somewhat more mature and stable. So y'all hurry up and get yours and get out of the way so I can get mine. ;-)

Not getting one until real-world, off the shelf parts, gaming benchmarks that are 15% better than current AMD 2.8+Ghz systems to come out.

spend $50 building a website and pretend that you do tech reviews. Insert bunch of Intel ads and praise Intel for being such a great chipmaker. Then you will recieve a gift package from Intel, in it couple of E6300 w/ 4mb cache, couple of E6600 and E6700 w/ couple of reworked X975 mobo. All free, as long as you agree to cook your benchmark results infavor of Intel.

You sound bitter. Wait, maybe you're just-- no, just a bitter AMD fanboy.

I am not bitter nor gullible, Just stating a few good possibilities.
I am neither's chipmaker's fan(boy), have my A64 3000 OC'ed to 2.75ghz and enjoying an inexpensively built system that will do than enough till K8L quad system.
But at the same time feel sad for those of you who believe in anything told, specially by a company that has a history of deception and monopolistic behavior.

You haven't seen any of the Socket 479 Core Duo reviews, have you? If you knew how CURRENTLY AVAILABLE Core Duos compete against the K8 CPUs, you wouldn't be so skeptical about Core2.

Deception? Please....you are just being bitter. You disregard every Conroe bench out there but are absolutely certain K8L will be the bomb?

im not actually, im just gonna get a cheap AM2 proc when AMD's prices drops just because I don't want to wait until the end of the summer to build a new pc..and get a quad core or K8L next year...

also, conroe's supply may not be that good for the first few months...

there may be alot of issues with the boards and memory just like what AM2 is having right now...
