It is possible that Democrats will gain, not lose in November. Here's why/how.

Color me shocked that the ‘the government spends too much money’ guy is totally down with spending $100 billion a year on a totally failed policy.

Sometimes America has to invest in law enforcement measures that gets drugs and criminals off the streets.

After a half century of total failure I’m sure flushing some more money down the toilet will do the trick.

Now we know when you talk about wanting to cut wasteful spending you are lying. Thanks for clearing that up! It’s the same as with tax policy. You complained about taxes going up and then complained about a plan where taxes would actually decline.

Sometimes problems can only be solved by force. You know, actually follow immigration and labor law.

We have a refugee crisis at the border. Only a monster would characterize refugees as an "invasion." Only a bigger monster would conflate refugees with being criminals.

The irony of the right-wing being evangelical Christian is they are literally doing to these refugees what Sodom did to it's refugees. But then Christians have been propagandized for years to think Sodom had ANYTHING to do with sex and was only ABOUT sex.

Felix is delusional enough to believe the Republicans have superior policies for dealing with climate change to Democrats.

GOP has a 7 seat lead and probably 9 since Duarte leads in CA by .2%.
Wonder if there's any difference in McCarthy's clown circus between a 7 vote lead and 9?

LOL This won't happen. McCarthy REALLY wants to be speaker and won't give up his spot to the orange dumpster fire. Only a few Republicans need to say f-that and it won't happen because they won't have the majority necessary to elect Trump as speaker at that point.

This is just Q level hopium being free based whenever the subject comes up.
Dems were willing to fund MAGA candiates in primaries. Maybe they'll be willing to vote for Trump for the clown show that would become.

I just need to highlight the gravity of this statement...
Hakeem Jeffries pulled off a quiet revolution on Wednesday, becoming the first leader of the House Democrats to be born after the end of World War II and the first Black leader in either chamber of Congress, in what will likely be the first of many major changes coming for his rapidly evolving party.

Born after the end of WW2 is a long fucking time.

to be fair, Pelosi was Dem leader since 2002.
that's 20yrs she was in charge so Jeffries 1st leader to be born after ww2 doesnt mean much

CNN seems to have gone more right wing since february too. Now its like Fox News Lite.
I've suspected similar shifts in Politico. Liberal press my ass.

Uh, Politico? Biden didn't make Marjorie Taylor Greene "the face of the GOP" — Republicans did | Salon.com

The widespread assumption that only Democrats have any agency or causal influence over American politics." This is famously known as "Murc's Law," named after a commenter at the blog Lawyers, Guns, and Money who noticed years ago the habitual assumption among the punditry that Republican misbehavior can only be caused by Democrats. Do Republicans reject climate science? Must be because Democrats failed to persuade them! Did Republicans pass unpopular tax cuts for the rich? Must be that Democrats didn't do enough to guide them to better choices! Do Republicans keep voting for lunatics and fascists? It must be the fault of Democrats for being mean to them! Even Donald Trump's election was widely blamed on Democrats — who voted against him, to be clear — on the bizarre grounds that Barack Obama should have rolled over and just let Mitt Romney win in 2012.

There are two ways for the press to deal with these depressing inevitabilities. Option No. 1 is to say straight out that the GOP is run by a bunch of shameless liars who are waging war on truth and democracy. But doing that, of course, means giving up the pretense that "both sides" are the same. The other option is to stubbornly refuse to see the abundant evidence that Republicans are deliberately sinister actors and to go on depicting them as wayward children who honestly can't be expected to know any better. The former frame fulfills the purported mission of journalism, which is to tell the truth. But alas, we're probably in for at least two years of elaborate apologies and roundabout justifications and Murc's Law proving out once again across the media universe.

House speaker clown circus update:

mccarthy has a slim 4 vote margin and there are 5 repubs on record saying they'll vote again him.
And what will happen if he can’t get 218 votes? No one knows.

The last time a vote for speaker had to go to multiple ballots was in 1923. And the longest time in history it took to elect a speaker lasted two months, with a total of 133 ballots.

so i guess no laws can be passed till there is a speaker since the House will be in chaos till that time?

What laws do you think were going to be passed anyway?

That's not unlike saying deplorables should be shot because nothing can cure their mental illness and they are dangerous to democracy. It is based on a sincere belief that society is threatened by immorality. The problem, not so obviously apparently, is that what people think is moral is the same as the methodology by which they believe it can be achieved. The unconscious assumption is that because a moral society is absolutely a requirement for a just society that just that belief itself equates to the expertise as to how that moral state can be achieved. We all know about having the best intentions and that they often miss the mark.

It should be obvious, in my opinion, that not everyone is capable of honest self reflection, that their self respect is tied to their valuation of the moral beliefs they grew up accepting as reality. It isn't everyone who questions everything or frees themselves from attachment to such things.

The fear, of course, is that if one is wrong then no true morality exists and anyone can believe anything. But clearly morality exists as a concept because a human nature beyond programming and belief is built into our genes. Morality is when a person is real and that means free from attachments to beliefs.

WArner wins Senate run off over Walker but barely.. 51.4% 😮

Now Dems have an outright majority in the Senate.
No more power sharing with repubs.
Ie: judicial committee was 11-11 thus repubs can hold up bidens judicial picks.

Now it's 12-10

final results of house race:
1671041589949.png

so that close race in CA, the repub won by .2%.

so mccarthy has +9.
but is it really +9 since he needs 218 for majority?
so he basically only has a +5 wiggle room?

it looks like the repubs didnt pay that heavy of a price for overturning roe v wade. :(
they still got the house, which will stymie Biden's agenda.

lets see if they pay a price in the 2024 elections, especially for president.

So a year they were expected to pick up dozens of seats and they only net 9 means they didn't pay a price?

And we have the spineless wannabe speaker saying he regained control of the house but how poorly McConnel did with the senate. Yeah he didn’t benefit from redistricting.
