Ok I really wanted to avoid posting about this but I have searched all over the internet and tried all kinds of things and I'm getting a little annoyed now..

Here's the story,

I was able to play Call of Duty 2 online no problem at my friend's house using his DSL on a wired LAN/shared internet connection. We recently got Wireless Internet installed at our house and we bought a LinkSys WRT54G Wireless router so we could share the connection on 2 computers.

I can connect to websites at lightning fast speeds, I even get a 60ms latency in World of Warcraft, but Quake 4 and Call of Duty 2 both will not display servers I can join. I tried using GameSpy to find and log in to servers. It will find servers but it will not connect in-game.

I did see some people tried setting up Port Forwarding for the ports the games use. So, I tried this. I went in to the command window and figured out the correct ports Call of Duty 2 uses, entered them into the config for my router, enabled them, and no go. Didn't work at all.

So then I tried turning off the Port Forwarding and using the DMZ option, again, no go.

I even disabled the security and firewall stuff, and nothing.. Maybe I did make a mistake? I spent hours overlooking the whole config screen for the router, so I doubt it.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated, I'm going nuts over here, heh.

EDIT - Just to add, I also am using a LinkSys Wireless G PCI adapter on my PC.

Solved the problem by uninstalling Quake 4 and CoD2 and not worrying about it anymore. I'll just play WoW - oh well..

Ok solved the problem, for real, this time :)

Called my ISP apparently for some reason they block off certain ports for security reasons and you have to call them and a manager has to open them up for you and then you have to set up a Static IP in the Router. So, problem solved and I can play CoD2 and Q4 now. Woo hoo! I was about to go out of my mind with that one...

Well that is definately a new one (problem/weirdness)

what ISP?

probably the reason you didn't get any responses is because it made no sense whatsoever.

Yeah what ISP?

I'm having the same problem getting WinMX to upload. Tried to open up ports, but maybe I just didn't do it right. Seems I did hear Comcast (my ISP) blocks P2P ports.

It's a fairly new ISP to the Northwest Indiana area called CSInet.. Primarily Wireless broadband, they also offer DSL and Dial up. For some reason they have certain ports blocked off by default for all their customers, claiming they are exploited by viruses..

I had to call them and a manager had to open the ports for my IP. Then I had to set up a Static IP on my router, and everything works fine now. I didn't think it made any sense at all and at last resort I called my ISP and it happened to be their fault.. I was messing around with my router and network settings for 2 weeks trying to figure that one out.
