Comcast already does that in a way(just not completely block), they scan for torrent activities with Packeteer devices and throttles them down.

Thing I love about this is there is plenty of viruses and adware you can't see that allow them to get into your pc remotely without you even knowing.

question: would direct connect be a way around this? are we going to see the rebirth of massive DC++ hubs?

Yeah but they can still hit you with the hidden trojans, viruses, and adware. It is more common than you think.

Care to share what these ultra sneaky viruses and adware are? And don't tell me that you don't know because you can't see them :)

not at all, torrents are huge outside the us, i.e. the pirate bay isnt even hosted here. They would still be huge and I doubt that will change in the US either.

So everybody is guilty until proven innocent huh? How much longer until we get put in jail for thought crimes?

Here's how I see it. . .it's illegal to to yell FIRE in a crowded movie theater. But there's nobody standing there handing out ball gags to patrons as they enter the theater to make sure that they don't do it. Whoever does it will suffer the consequences AFTER they commit the crime and are caught. That's how it works. . .if you start gagging everyone as they go into the theater nobody is going to go see movies any more. Or when there is a real fire, nobody will be able to yell.

No matter how much these people try to stop piracy, the pirates will always find a way around it. Rather than expending such huge resources into trying to stop something that can't be stopped, maybe they should put resources into trying to find ways to either embrace it or find more sensible alternatives other than sending costly and ineffective legal teams all over.

My biggest fear with this kind of filtering is how long afterwards will we see ISPs or, heaven forbid, Uncle Sam filtering web pages, blogs, or news that they don't think you should see?

Wouldn't IP blockers like PeerGuardian block their sniffing?

Why should you all care? Remember you all said you hate all of that negative news around here so it will work out for the best for everyone here!
