I would have voted for him...not sure now though, the guy will be pushing 70 if he runs for office as a republican.

He's probably one of the few left though that doesn't pander to nutcases a'la Sarah Palin, and he sure as hell can hold is own when he supports his arguments.

It's almost like the McCain thing all over again, except Newt is probably, to me at least, someone who can fire up the fiscally conservative core.

He's been around so long I forgot what skeletons are in his closet

It's never too old.
You start with a HRM by walking at first in zone 3 for 45 minutes.
Then after about three weeks the HRM will tell you "hey, you need to speed up beep beep"
So you walk - run on intervals never going to high or too low.
Then, after about 3 months, he'd find himself being able to run all the time, all 45 minutes.
The after about 6 months I suggest moving into Zone 4 and running whole time!

Oh you meant for politics? Too fat too uncharming not good looking = fail.

Reagan was 69, so no he's not too old. But Newt has got way too many skeletons. His skeletons have got skeletons.

Some people are natural born leaders, natural born followers, or team players who can can contribute either way.

The Gingrich problem is that he can't lead, can't follow, and can not get out of the way. Maybe just my dimocrat partisan assessment, but still, as an American thinker, no one can dismiss Gingrich as a political force, or deny that Gingrich is a one man factory of ideas. And as such, Gingrich is more a force of nature, like a strong thunderstorm or a Hurricane, that randomly pops up in one place, changes the status qao for a while, but thereafter, it all blows over, and its the same ole same oh. In short, if Gingrich could ever integrate all his bring ideas into a coherent philosophy of good Governance, he might make a good leader, but Gingrich sucks at that self discipline, and such people can never govern, but still make excellent bomb throwers, who constantly remind us the emperor wears no clothes.

He's not too old to run, though he still won't win.

Personally I'd like to see him in the primaries against Palin, the mudslinging should be something to behold. Then after they've knocked each other out we can get a more serious candidate, though I don't know yet who that will be.

Not too old, but not the right candidate IMHO. If he ran, he'd probably perform similarly to Fred Thompson in 2008 - a favorite of the hardcore party faithful, but not enough appeal to those more moderate to win the party nomination (much less the general election).

That being said, I could possibly see him being tapped as a potential VP pick or other high level cabinet position, to shore up some other candidate's conservative bona fides.

The other thing to mention is that Newt is involved in so many non for profit political pacts, meaning it may be impossible for Newt to remove himself from the from those affiliation obligation, meaning Newt could wind up in jail if he stands as a Candidate for elective political office without totally severing his connections to ALL of them.

Lots of complex issues and rules there, and the devil is always in the details. Newt Gingrich might overlook one or two, but you can bet his critics will be be ready, wiling, and able to exploit every Gingrich error or sin of omission.

And for that matter, Gingrich is the great inevitable, Newt always threatens to run for higher office but never does.

He's still part of the old school Republicans that think they can rekindle the Reagan spirit with some smoke and mirrors. I think the Palin message is interesting to younger voters while Gingrich is hoping the geezers still have clout.

Oh, I forgot...it's okay to screw around on your wife as long as you marry your mistress.

yea, probably

Gingrich is okay, just caught up a bit too much in the anti-everything-Obama wave that's currently going around. Other than that he's not so bad.

Aside from Newt getting kicked out of his own party in the 90s?

Newt is a moron and has a much of a chance as a snowball does in hell.

Under Clinton he was Good. Once Clinton was out of the way Gingrich began slipping into nuttiness.

Newt is an Adulterer. The ignorant have no doubt forgotten this, but it would definitely come up if he were to run and would likely kill his chances.

It's not so much that he's an adulterer as it is he voted to impeach while doing it, no?

This. I admire the man's mental capacity, but a country of over three hundred million should be able to find a presidential candidate who can make an oath before G-d and actually hold to it. Or failing that, not make the damned oath to begin with. Or failing that, have the grace to leave public office BEFORE being outed and his family humiliated.

And Clinton was impeached for committing and suborning perjury, NOT for adultery.

Maybe the biggest Newt problem is that he put all his energy into justifying a totally false premise. Namely that:

All Republicans are good

All democrats are bad.

When in terms of political ideas on policy, there is a great deal shared between democrats and Republicans.

And its gets to be an epic fail when you have GOP Rino's and democratic Dino's, so in terms of policy, any sort of partisan politics branding of parties get totally lost in the shuffle. And thus someone like Newt is just a power hungry ruthless nut who will sell out his own country to get his own way. Its why the GOP fired him in 1998, and why should the GOP rehire him now.

Haha, the "too old" thing again. I love the shit people come up with.

McCain died already, right?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well speaking of McCain, since he will never be able to run for Prez again, I think ole John has his sights on being the next Senator Byrd who simply outlives everyone in his generation.

McCain's mommy is still alive and well, meaning he may get to be over a hundred also.
