Isnt DOOM3 a failure???

Well, I do not understand all that hype behind that DOOM 3. I was expecting something new, but there was NOTHING new. Super-boring gameplay, beginning was just a bad copy of HL1, besides, the game is sooo dark, that during daytime it is impossible to play it even at high gamma settings. What is the point to design the rooms, if you do not see 3/4 of it usually. Besides, just EVERY surface is made shiny - ridiculously, even the chairs are shiny. And at high quality settings the textures are extremely boring and unsharp. It seems that Carmack has learned how to make those fancy shadows, and then in almost half of the rooms the lamps are shaking etc. It just gets on the nerves after a while!
In my opinion the level design of Painkliller, the characters etc., was just 100% better. And all those shiny surfaces with lightings etc. look sooo much better in FarCry, and also the gameplay is sooo much more interesting.
In my opinion the Doom3 is just a failure, and it is ridiculous, how much people talk about it, just because it is a work of the legendary id. If a completely unknown company would release a game like this, nobody would even notice it.

I believe you will find yourself in the minority. I love the game, and can't get enough of it. I love it because it's so scary I have to play it in the daytime with the lights on.

id is held in such high regard mainly because of their engines, and D3 certainly doesn't disappoint there at all.

the engine is worth far more than the game.

that is why "they" talk about doom3.

If its worth the same as the quake 3 engine, its worth about $31mil 😉 ($1mil for an unlimited license of the engine, 31 titles)

OK, I do not see really anything particular in this engine. To me both the indoor and outdoor scenes in FarCry
look by far much better. And the game need such dramatic system specs that it is just a joke for most users.
The same FarCry, for example, is a demanding game, but the Doom3 stutters every time I try to open a door etc.
And do not think I have the worst computer for today: A64 3000+, R9800 Pro.
I think in most of the cases the engine story is also blown up just because Carmack did it, so, it means - it MUST be good.
But what is the really big deal for us-players, if the games without this "fabulous" engine look better and run better???
I am sure HL2 will be a much better game and nowadays you can not impress anyone by shiny surfaces everywhere and stuff...
The game scenario and artwork is what matters. I think not so many people really care about those hyper-dynamic
shadows. In real life the lamps do not wobblw forth and back all the time, like they do in Doom 3. I got an impression that the game
just circles around all those new features, just to show - wow, we can do it, even if it does not make sense.

DoomIII is no doubt a boring game, its the engine and future games that will be good !

Which begs the question.. why do people buy doomIII?

Penile-envy...digitally that is.

Please title this post "AIAWBAIHD3T: Isn't Doom3 a failure???" (Another I'm a Whiney B!tch and I Hate Doom 3 Thread)

No at all, I just wanted to say what i think about this game, and it is my true opinion. It just seems that most people like it because you HAVE TO LIKE IT, IT IS DOOM3

I just don't know what to say here. I must admit that Doom3 is lacking in the "physics" department when it comes to creatures reacting when you shoot them. Most of them burn to dust and that's it. But the way that the creatures stalk and approach is quite realistic and scary. The imp, crawling across walls and ceilings is impressive. You mention FarCry and how much better it "looks" is not due to an engine.
The Crytek, Pain & HAVOC, and Doom3 engines are unique to each other. Each one is impressive in it's own way. I own Painkiller, FarCry and Doom3 currently FYI. So Doom3 will never be a failure and will far outsell FarCry and Painkiller combined because people love Doom. And game developers love to code for ID engines. 31 titles spawning from the Quake engine is not to be taken lightly. ID engines seem to be the most durable in terms of what can be done with them. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. I suggest you upgrade from your 9800 to something a little more powerful if you plan on playing all the D3 engine titles that will be coming out. They will only get worse on our systems. A 6800 or X800 would be good for a while to come. I just sold my 5900U which plays adequately on high settings in Painkiller, FarCry and Doom3, but these are the first games with these engines and I am not sure I will be able to handle newer ones. So 6800 here I come. Not waiting for PCI-E version anymore. Maybe down the road I can pick one up.

I havent had a ny chance playing the game yet but I'm pretty sure i wont be as dissapointed as you are.. If you did a little research you would see what the engine is capable of. Its an awesome engine.

You obviously missed the bink videos Cat posted the other day...

Would also realize that the game is supposed to be dark, and it's not supposed to be a new story... I find it somewhat amusing and a little frustrating that people's expectations of Doom 3 are far beyond what id ever said it would be at any time during it's development. If you actually look back at what id employees themselves said about it, not what websites and journalists wrote, you'd see that Doom 3 lives up to everything id claimed it would be.

The industry in general is who hyped it up, and if you fell into it, well, sorry, that's your problem if you can't sort out fact from opinion and speculation.

Doom and Doom II were cool primarily for the custom .WAD files people made...hopefully Doom3 will be the same...I do enjoy it by itself though...

LMAO, Doom 3 a failure huh? your the kinda of guy that would drive a Ferrari and say it sucks because there are no cup holders.

OK, I do not understand something here: tell me what is the MAJOR difference in D3 over other games???
Graphically it does not look better, if not worse than some older games.
But, please, do not start again with tah superior engine bla bla bla thing...
We are tallking here about a game, not an add for the engine, and can you, please, just point out, what are the major advantages of this engine over other games, that run smooth on normal computers, and how do we, players, benefit from those "wonders" this engine does.
BTW - Ferrari drives several times faster than normal cars - the opposite is true for D3 🙂))

Why would I need "bink" videos when I own, and play, the game? Can you be a little more specific?

But you started in with saying the engine sux. Why dont you tell us why the engine sux.
And may I ask what exactly you are trying to accomplish here? You cant compare the Painkiller, FarCry,Doom3 engines with each other. They are different engines thick one.

And who were you before you were draazeejs?

I was an avid doom1/2 player. I'm obligated to play doom3.

btw, the game is dark because it was meant to be played at night with the lights off.
