At Berkeley we shifted to a similar system. It's called E-Bill, and you have the option to pay via that method and get charged 50 cents. If your bank offers free online bill paying, though, you can use that and not get charged a dime. That's what I do.

Fill me in on that...CARS can suck it.

Berkeley sucks. University Hall can suck it.

In NZ, we were the 1st to used EFT-POS systems etc and it was all free. Bank work loads got less and then internet banking come around. Now they charge for every electronic transaction that hits the bank account yet NO input/monitoring is required by bank staff. It if isnt the amount of interest they charge, its the huge amounts of money they make on our use of accounts that allows them to write off millions to 3rd world countries.....whinge whinge....lol.
Its all about revenue generation....

my school just spent 11 million on a giant 100ft tall fvcking pole in the ground. they're gonna stick it in the middle of campus and call it "art"

Just get used to the fact that a lot of things at your school won't make sense.

My school's automated registration website was only up 9AM-5PM. I never could figure out the logic behind that one.

We've got something similar here. The site you can go to to pay your bills, check your schedule, register for classes, or do other functions of that nature, is only available 7:30 a.m.-3:00 a.m. eastern time. I guess their webservers are older models that need to get 4.5hrs of sleep a night.😕

My college charges about 3.5% for all CC transactions, grrr. Oh, and the online statement is 100% incomprehensible.

Thats because the credit card companies charge the college around 3.5% of the transaction. Why not just pay by check if you want to avoid the credit card charge?

the wonderful system no longer mails out paper statements so parents can mail out checks and keep records of school expenses. I guess it's alright that we're moving to a better place, with less cluttering and resources wasted.

Now explain to me why the hell I'm charged $0.50 per online payment transaction? No banks/credit cards/utility companies charge me for online payment - in fact, they THANK me for online payment so they can put ppl out of jobs and save more overhead on HR.

I love college.

i like that i can pay credit card bills online, and they draft it from my bank account at no charge

but my mortgage holder, citi, charges an extra 10 bucks to pay my mortgage online. nice of them, eh?

there are fees that your college must pay for every credit card payment

And, how are those fees different if he pays online vs. in person with a credit card??
Also, I believe that credit card agreements with merchants forbid them from charging a fee to cover the credit card charges.

Exactly what I was reading all the replies to hope to hear.

The stupid thing about this is that if it's like my school, you're better off paying 50 cents because if you pay in person, you have to wait in line for about 40-60 minutes, and if you mail it in... from a college mailbox... even at the mailbox about 200 yards from the office it goes to, they somehow fail to receive it with at least 2 weeks before the due date and charge you $85 for creating a "temporary loan".

All I have to say is "Welcome to college. Nothing is free and despite the fact that the school is making thousands off of you a year, they will still nickle and dime you like cheapasses. Now you know why college students have a reputation for being poor."
