I think this is just a tad bit of an over-reaction. Category 4 or 5 hurriance-as of last night, Isodore had been over Yucatan for more than 24 hours, and its top windspeed had dropped to 50 mph. Granted, it will probably swing back over the gulf eventually, and it will probably intensify again once it gets over water-but saying it will be a category 4 or 5 is pure unsupported conjecture. The link above for most current landstrike data indicates a maximum expected windspeed of 75 mph, if I am reading it correctly.

Sounds like the local news media is trying to wipe up a bit of a panic down there.

I posted my thread when Isidore was a cat 4 hurricane and before it stalled over the Yucatan. I have updated the thread as new information comes in. Actually it isn't an overreaction. Have you ever heard of Opal? We really dodged a bullet on that storm. It went from cat1-4 overnight. Had it not weakend some before landfall a catastrophic disaster would have occured.

Windspeed had actually dropped to 40 MPH. I don't rmember anyone saying Isidore would be a cat 4 or 5 once it stalled over the Yucatan. The prediction of a cat 4-5 was made BEFORE it stalled and when it was cat 4 strength.

The intensity forecast for this storm has everyone up in the air. Right now the median forecast is 100MPH winds before it hits NO. It could be much stronger or a little weaker. Depends on how fast it arrives and how much the inner core collapsed(a lot) but this is a massive storm.

You should read the whole thread before posting. Nothing in my posts was "unsupported conjecture." Not only can I read models correctly I also follow and talk to several meterologists daily on a message board. Their forecast and ideas don't deviate much from mine. They actually care for the older models and I like the trantech more... but I digress.

BTW the NHC is saying 85knot winds which is 100MPH.

Tulane must think New Orleans is getting a direct hit.

gave them the whole week off
Emergency Bulletin

September 24, 2002

At 2 p.m. today all Tulane University classes on all campuses will be cancelled. Classes will resume on Monday, Sept. 30.

Weather conditions are expected to continue to deteriorate from now through Wednesday evening so you are urged to make plans to leave New Orleans as quickly as possible. The University will operate a shuttle service from the McAlister extension along Brown Field on the uptown campus to the airport, beginning at 4 p.m. today.

Waiting for LSU to make a release... ;)

The weather channel interviewed my aunt in Biloxi. Kind of cool.

People in Mississippi won't play around, those that remember Camile anyway. My prayers are with New Orleans.

The newest update on the weather channel is that Isidore, is showing no signs of developing into a hurricane right now but, still might later

11pm update: She's back in the waters, still at 60mph. The projected path looks to be veering to the right more and more, so NO might very well miss it.

That stinks it looks to me that it may be starting to convect a little better around the center of the storm which does not bode well for whoever is in the path of this storm.

Mah cuz at Exxon-Mobil said hiz operation outside Houston will vote tomorrow morning on whether to shut down the refinery. Problem is, it takes 3 days to shut down the refinery!

Umm... there would be no reason to shut down the refinery. If it takes 3 days they are too late.

2am EDT update: Still 60mph winds, moving North at 10MPH. NOAA pegs the odds of it coming within 65nmi of NO to be 22%. The "worst" odds for it becomming a hurricane are 60% in favor, which is within 24 hours from now; Cat 2 is specifically at 10%.

I have been hearing that this storm moving so fast could cause a severe weather outbreak inland. We will see...
