Some of us would like to play emulated games on a tv using a real controller. For the most part, pc game controllers suck. And not everyone has an HTPC they can readily hook up to a tv.

And, the XBOX is a lot more portable and more easily used in a multiplayer house environment.

Please don't tell me that you would LAN 4 computers in order to emulate a 4 player round of Goldeneye. And, saying that you would never play Goldeneye again doesn't matter because that's no really the point here.

So you've run N64 Golden Eye off an Xbox with 4 players? Not bad. By Portable do you mean you networked 4 Xboxs together for N64 Golden Eye?

As far as controllers go, the Microsoft Sidewinder is a damned good controller, so I don't see that as being an argument. Although the TV screen could be a possible argument. Although, I enjoy running emulated games fullscreen on a monitor more than a TV, especially with filtering enabled.

So I guess if you like looking at a TV better or have the ability to network 4 Xboxs together and play emulators that way, those would be decent reasons for plunking down the cash. What emulator pulls off the networked Goldeneye anyways? Project64?

I use Surreal 64. And the Xbox has 4 controller ports.

Oh so by portable you simply meant that you could bring the emulated game to your friends house and play it? And by 4 player round you meant 4 controllers yet you compared it to 4 computers lanned together? Ah well, It is decent, if I were to get an Xbox for free, I'd do that. But I deffinitely wouldn't go around recommending an Xbox for that single reason, unless someone is asking what console is best for modding and emulating.

Well no, of course you wouldn't buy an Xbox for that reason alone. That's just a reason to add on top of any other reason one might want to purchase an Xbox, but is one that greatly increases its already greater value over the other consoles.

Most games that are worth owning are on all systems. Several recent games are getting superior reviews on the Xbox version (see : Rainbow Six 3) and the XBL service blows away the competition. I play a lot of sports games so a console is a must anyway, so I might as well do the most with the thing that I can.

ive briefly read about free xbl alternatives like xbconnect and xbtunnel on gamespy. any thoughts on these? do they support sports games like espn hockey and any football games?

They support any game that is capable of system link.

xbox is for fighting, driving, sports, and action games. pc is for first person shooters and strat games.

at least thats the breakdown at my house. i cant stand trying to play a fps on any console. although golden eye on n64 was good, i was ignorant to the bliss of fps on a pc at that time. i havent found a console that can play a fps as smoothly. yes, that includes halo. doom3 looks choppy also. altho i realise d3 isnt finished, and its cool theyve ported it, its still choppy when the action heats up. riddick just looks like ass unless you zoom in your view. at least with a pc, when i cant run a game, i dont have to suffer. i can turn off crap like shadows and such that i dont notice any way. thats not even mentioning that any controller just cant compare to the kb/mouse.

the xbox is surely worth the money just for the genres mentioned at the beginning of the post.

unless you are a cheapo, for $150, you can't beat a dvd player/gaming system. i have ps2 xbox and gc, and my ps2 and xbox are modded, and i play my xbox MUCH more than that. it is also great when modded cause you can turn it into an emulator. i play all my old NES, SNES, Genesis, etc, games on my xbox. much better playin em on a TV w/a controller than on a monitor w/a keyboard.

i think he used a 4 computer lan comparison with 4 controller ports in the xbox to make a point that it is much easier to play 4 players on an emulated game on xbox than it is with your computer. i'm not sure if you were trying to point a flaw i his comparison with you "yet" but if you were, i hope this clarifies things.

ps3 not coming out any time soon. Maybe XB2 will, but it's still a worthy buy I think if you're into consoles.

dvD functionality on the XBOX > PS2 dvd.

some game with a crazed squirrel is coming out🙂 halo 2 looks good. its cheap😛 mod is good. online play is better to boot. release dates for future systems are um..fuzzy anyways.

Conker Reloaded is the name I think

Just bought my Xbox in December and cant believe I went this long without it. If anything, the xbox will be worth getting just for Halo 2 ALONE...but then theres loads of other great titles coming out this fall. Im looking forward to Burnout 3, Crash N' Burn, and a few others

I heard Conker Reloaded is exactly the same game as the one on the N64 except that the game has been remodeled to look better while utilizing the xbox hardware.
