Im debating the same thing although Im thinking of getting a PS2 (have a Cube and a XBox)

I haven't tryed any online play with my XBox though so I can't help you out on that one.

From what Ive heard the PS3, and XBox 2 are probably coming out in 2006.

Conker Reloaded is the name I think

Just bought my Xbox in December and cant believe I went this long without it. If anything, the xbox will be worth getting just for Halo 2 ALONE...but then theres loads of other great titles coming out this fall. Im looking forward to Burnout 3, Crash N' Burn, and a few others

ok maybe nnja gaiden, but i'd prefer multiplayer games; another thing, xb doesnt have the final fantasy series

if you can get one for cheap (you should be able to) and your willing to mod it I think it could be an excellent system to have. If your not gonna mod it I think you'll find it unsatisfactory.

what can you do by modding it? i know you can add a new hd and save games rght on the hd so you dont need hte disc inside but thats all i know (ive never really looked up xb stuff alot b4)

PS.: the 1st game i wanna get is espn hockey but I can just get that for ps2 and play online for free

Really, the PS2 doesn't either. FFX and X-2 were (IMO) very unsatisifying coming from someone who's completed all the old Squaresoft RPGs (FF1,2,3,Tactics,7,Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, FF Legend 1,2,3, FF Adventure) and FFXI is too EverQuest-y for my taste. Who knows if FFXII is going to be good...?

The main reason I chose to mod my xbox was to make an emulation station (nice jingle!).

I have several games ranging from C64 to PS1 just sitting on my Xbox. Hrmm, don't feel like playing Ninja Gaiden tonight? How about some Tecmo Bowl! Nah, not Tecmo Bowl, how about Pool of Radiance? Nah, D&D sucks, how about some Chrono Trigger? I don't feel like hooking up my GBA to play Final Fantasy Tactics Advance so how about I just play it on my Xbox!

Etc.

Yah, to be honest with you, I think this Xbox has been the best gaming investment I've made in quite some time. I buy maybe one or two PC games every few months because for the most part they seem to suck these days. I'm having an absolute blast with this thing though.

Xbox is a great stand alone emulation system. Although don't discount the PS2 emus, I have a NES and SNES emulator on my modded PS2. I think there are others but I haven't looked for them.

I agree that an Xbox is only worth getting if you are gonna mod it. If I bought an Xbox (already own a PS2 and GCN), I'm not sure if I'd buy any games for it (maybe Ninja Gaiden), I'd just buy it to mod and use as an emulator.

I like how people justify buying an Xbox for playing emulated games. Like emulators are something new to PC. I mean no offense, but I can invest absolutely 0 dollars and play every emulated game I want to on my PC. Maybe if you've got a 486 then you may have problems emulating something.

Is Xbox worth the price? Yea most likely, it is pretty cheap these days.

Games currently out for the Xbox that I would buy:
Ninja Gaiden
Mech Assault

Games that will be coming out for Xbox that I would buy:
Halo 2
Kotor 2
Fable
Riddick Possibly?
Mech Assault 2
Dead or Alive Ultimate Maybe?
Guilty Gear X2 Xbox Live (I have the game for PS2, but it would be damn cool to have it for live)
Silent Hill 4 (Assuming I didn't already have it for another console)

I think the main game will be fable. If it turns out really good and I can't get it for PC, I'll have to buy an Xbox.

Some of us would like to play emulated games on a tv using a real controller. For the most part, pc game controllers suck. And not everyone has an HTPC they can readily hook up to a tv.

And, the XBOX is a lot more portable and more easily used in a multiplayer house environment.

Please don't tell me that you would LAN 4 computers in order to emulate a 4 player round of Goldeneye. And, saying that you would never play Goldeneye again doesn't matter because that's no really the point here.

So you've run N64 Golden Eye off an Xbox with 4 players? Not bad. By Portable do you mean you networked 4 Xboxs together for N64 Golden Eye?

As far as controllers go, the Microsoft Sidewinder is a damned good controller, so I don't see that as being an argument. Although the TV screen could be a possible argument. Although, I enjoy running emulated games fullscreen on a monitor more than a TV, especially with filtering enabled.

So I guess if you like looking at a TV better or have the ability to network 4 Xboxs together and play emulators that way, those would be decent reasons for plunking down the cash. What emulator pulls off the networked Goldeneye anyways? Project64?

I use Surreal 64. And the Xbox has 4 controller ports.

Oh so by portable you simply meant that you could bring the emulated game to your friends house and play it? And by 4 player round you meant 4 controllers yet you compared it to 4 computers lanned together? Ah well, It is decent, if I were to get an Xbox for free, I'd do that. But I deffinitely wouldn't go around recommending an Xbox for that single reason, unless someone is asking what console is best for modding and emulating.
