Is Wright INTENTIONALLY trying to derail the Obama campaign?

We all know about the ramifications that the debacle with "Pastor" Wright has brought upon the Obama campaign. But it almost seems like Wright is enjoying his time in the spotlight and has no problem undermining the Obama campaign by repeating some of the ludicrous claims he likes to discuss. Lets add the recent comments by the "Reverend" Al Sharpton
Linked and a nice little trend emerges. These demigods that prey on the fears and prejudices of the downtrodden minority class have a lot to lose if a black man becomes president. Their cries of continual racial injustice will be lessened, and their ability to paint everything as a racial issue will be lessened. By derailing Obama, they can also USE HIM as a symbol of racial inequality and racism. They have more to gain with Obama beaten than with Obama as president.

Pretty damn sad if you ask me. It looks like that strategy is working, and the American people are falling for it, hook line and sinker.

Agreed. But unfortunately he is, partially driven by the media that should just ignore him.

If you can not elevate yourself to ones level, then attempt to smear/drag the other down in retaliation

This would have happened during the campaign one way or another.

I prefer it happens now while Obama is still fighting for the nomination so it will be old news by the time he's fighting for the Presidency.

In the case of Wright, I simply think that he went on the defensive, and then got too caught up in the moment to realize the great harm he's doing... As for Sharpton, he's just an attention-whore and racist douchebag with a Napoleon complex (He's short as hell!)

I think Wright, Sharpton and even Jesse Jackson have much to fear in what Obama represents. His path is a clear break from the "spiritual" leadership of the black community.

The changing of the old guard is often a painful experience...those who marched with MLK, or at least were alive to remember what it was like before the Civil Rights movement, will have trouble embracing Obama's message.

Arguably, figures such as Wright, Sharpton and Jackson have taken MLK's message, and twisted it to quench their own thirst for power and influence.

It doesn't seem unreasonable to me that Obama's path once crossed with such figures, or that he claims some as former mentors...but I think it is also rather revealing that Obama has broken ranks from the old guard, and is very much blazing his own trail...and achieving what Sharpton and Jackson could not...a viable bid for the Presidency.

At what point does Obama stand up to these clowns and call them out for what they are? His reconciliation speeches are nice and fluffy, but reconciliation is impossible when "leaders" of his own community see progress as a threat to their agenda.

You may be right. I remember last year there were reports in the New York papers at how Rev. Sharpton was jealous of Obama. This really is sad. Tells you how stupid and ignorant some in the black community are. They will put each other down for the sake of looking good. I've yet to see this behaviour in other communities.

He's been doing it for years but you probably haven't been paying attention. I remember last year during the Essence debate on black issues he got a very very cool response when he criticized those in the black community for trying to preach hate and scolded blacks for not doing more to help themselves.

I'm sure that's a part of it. The million dollar house that Wright lives in was built on racism, why would he want to throw that away?

Two theories.

Wright wants to derail Obama so he can say "I told you so, whitey will never elect a black man".

Or

Obama's campaign wants to get this show out of the way so when the real election comes he can claim to be distanced from a man he spent 20 years visiting weekly, children baptised, wrote a book with a title over, and of course called his spritual advisor and mentor.

If I was comfortable that Obama was sincere in his distancing of Wright and other supposed black "leaders" and he got of the universal healthcare bandwagon, I would vote for him in an instant.

I think that it is a plan that they are carrying out.

NY Times article from 4/30/07

Very end of the article:
Mr. Wright, who has long prided himself on criticizing the establishment, said he knew that he may not play well in Mr. Obama?s audition for the ultimate establishment job.

?If Barack gets past the primary, he might have to publicly distance himself from me,? Mr. Wright said with a shrug. ?I said it to Barack personally, and he said yeah, that might have to happen.?

I have been leaning towards this too.

But as a conspiracy theory we will never know the truth.

shrug.

this is getting wildly off-course, but I thought it was an issue of something getting lost in translation... like the french word for short is also a term used to show endearment.

Napoleon's height is a complicated issue.

The image of a short Napoleon exists in Briton, but not France.

Furthermore, when he died he was measured, but because of the difference in measurements at the time no one really knows which height was his 'true' height.

Either 5'2" or 5'7" depending on whether he was measured using the French or English standard.

That too... from wiki:
Napoleon's nickname of le petit caporal may add to the confusion, as non-Francophones may mistakenly interpret petit by its literal meaning of "small"; in fact, it is an affectionate term reflecting on his camaraderie with ordinary soldiers (for example, petit ami means "boyfriend" in French, petite amie means "girlfriend," and mon petit chou ["my little cabbage"] is a term of affection). He also surrounded himself with the soldiers of his elite guard, who were usually six feet or taller.

People are idiots. The US government did experiment on black males regarding syphilis so Wright has every reason to say the government is capable of anything. You Wright Winged wackos in here always talk about how power corrupts, but apply that to your flag and you go nuts.

At the same time, it is crazy to feel offended that because what the government has done and facing that truth because we, as individual Americans didn't sigh off on such experiments and wouldn't if asked, at least in most cases. So who the fuck cares what Wright says as far as taking it personally.

But because you are all nuts and can't separate your own self worth from some supposed attack on the nation, Obama will have to distance himself from Wright.

And that is fine because what Wright says about the US government isn't true about me and I want no part of a nation which experiments in biological welfare on black people or any other folk.

But because we as a people are full of self contempt and have huge sore toes we leave out in the street to be run over so we can scream, slime everywhere will try to connect Obama to irrational black hate of a US government that works and does shitty things in secret.

Remember, black people hate you and Obama wants to be President so he can get even. Muohhahahahaha! He's going to get even, and look at the size of your guilt. It's gonna really hurt.

Kill that fucker of hope.

Everyone knows that if you haven't sold crack, been shot or have multiple baby mommas, you're not "black enough" as a candidate...
