Yes the west is better. I highly doubt most here would choose somewhere else. A lot here like to think they would but in reality, most would not. Most of the west's issues are pretty first world in comparison to the rest of the world. We have are problems. But god dayum is it great living here.

"Western" has always described the Europeans and those governments and cultures that descended from them. Lumping Europe in with Asia is a massive fail, they have almost no shared heritage.

I have heard people claim outright that western culture is better than anything else. Do we do things the better way? We are the most educated, most sophisticated, most resourceful, most powerful, richest, most technologically advanced civilization ever, right? So is western culture the best?

Well, IMO it beats the Middle Ages.

Nowadays there's not that much difference between East and West. I mean Asian countries are just as advanced technologically.

The standards of living are what separates the areas of the world more than anything now. It's not East/West, it's 1st World/3rd World. Developed vs. Developing.

It's all about adapting to changes. Some would want to go back to the Middle Ages, but most countries adapt. The Japanese did an amazing job adapting to western technologies, and even in government in the beginning of the 20th century. Of course the fascist military took over, similar to Germany, Spain and Italy for a period. Western influence is huge, you can see it anywhere you go, but most countries still have their own culture, except for Canada.

What's so bad about Germany? After we beat them in WWI they never caused any more trouble. Other than the time they bombed Pearl Harbor.

Absolutely. The difference between our killing and theirs, is their killing is done for different reasons and they often do it in public. Our killing is done in private. Lets not forget how many innocent civilians we have murdered over seas who were not just innocent, but absolutely ignorant as to WHY they were being killed.
For one second, let us consider what it would be like from the perspective of the young girl in Iraq who was just put to bed by her parents, and tucked in for the night. Suddenly a bright flash lights up the room, everything shakes, you nearly go deaf from the explosion, and your parents were blown to hell and ripped into little pieces in the family room next to your room as shrapnel and debris tore through the house.
Is there any reason a person can give, any explanation, any possible way to convince you then that western culture could possibly somehow be better? Not a fucking chance, because its not. Its just different.
