Is Vonage up to something?

I've been a Vonage customer since 2004, they have been quite easy to use and really I have had no complaints or outages to speak of. Last year, in order to save a bit of money (or rather move it over to my wireless bill) I dropped to their 500 minute plan for $14.99/mo. Sure, I have a wife, and went over a few minutes every month, but I didn't care much as I still was always under $20/mo.

Well today I got the monthly Vonage "statement" in the email, and for the second month in a row I'm charged $19.99. 😕

Very odd that I would go over by the exact same amount of minutes each of two months running. So I went to investigate... or so I thought.

Unfortunately, logging into my Vonage account I have access to everything EXCEPT the Account Activity and Billing tabs - which error out. This has me even more concerned that Vonage is trying to pull something over here - with their whole Verizon case in shambles and all.

The only thing I can think of and that I noticed is that there are several 19.99 for 6 months promotions... but I have NEVER approved a change in account since 2006 when I dropped to the $14.99 plan, and their website does not show that pricing has changed.

Anyone else having this issue or know what might be happening?

I've got that same plan and get charged a bit over $20. I'm pretty sure it has to do with all the extra taxes they have been forced to collect over the last couple of years.

Even at $14.99 - my bill even with taxes has never been more than $17.xx.

Still at 14.99 for me.

Even 19.99 would beat the assraping AT&T likes to charge for a single land line on the most minimal plan.

If their website wasn't sucking at the moment, I'd check my charges. Maybe in a few minutes.

I haven't been able to get into billing or activity for the last 2 weeks...

It would be nice if their website only sucked "at the moment."

I've been a customer for years, and their website has ALWAYS sucked and had horrible response times and errors.

I checked my CC and they have charged me $20.45 for the past two months and I'm positive I do not go over.

I don't think you are going to get anyone to argue with you. If we were smart (or cared enough), we would be in the process of switching our service. I fully expect Vonage to go down in flames within the next few months.

Hmm, the only thing they could give me was a 12 cent increase in the USF recovery fee. I guess I'll just take my $20/mo and add it to my cell phone for more minutes there and ditch vonage.

If you use the savings calculator on this page and choose the 14.99 plan, it shows the monthly price to be $19.19 for the 14.99 plan.

Looks like taxes and fees vary based on your zip/state/whatever. It comes up with $19.99 for me.

As I said, honestly for about $16/mo I double my cell minutes for myself and my wife and just go wireless from here on.
