I dunno, I always keep my passport up to date, it's the gold standard in ID,plus you can leave
the country anytime which can come in handy for unexpected hot vacation deals :)

It wouldn't suprise me. A lot people never leave the US or only go to Canada/Mexico where all you need is a US drivers license.

I wouldn't doubt it. You don't need one unless you're going out of the country and that doesn't include Mexico and Canada.

I'm 28 and just got one last year for our trip to Fiji.

There is a better country than the US? Why the hell would I want to leave?

I don't have one. In fact, I don't know of many people who do have one. Why would I want to leave the country? Everything I need/want is right here.

Having the ability to move about the globe freely at will is important, I recommend getting your passport
before you NEED to have one :)

I would get one if it didnt cost so much for this ID. You even have to provide photos for it too, erg.

But yes, the US Passport is gold.

I still have mine even though I haven't used it since summer of 2000 when I was in six different countries (including US).

I don't have one. Most people I know don't have one either. Unless you do a lot of international travel, there's really no need to pay for one "just in case." It's a big country with lots to see (I still haven't seen a lot of it) and while I'd love to get the chance to go to Europe, China, Australia and some other places, I just don't have the vacation time to allow me to do that (a common problem in the U.S. where I believe vacation time is far below average compared to some other countries.) As someone said above, you can go to Canada/Mexico/most of the Caribbean with a driver's license and birth certificate. That's what we'll be using for our cruise to the Bahamas in a couple weeks.

Oh please, your plan to overthrow the government is years away from happening.

LOL, what "plan" ? you never can tell when the opportunity to travel abroad will present itself, having
your passport can mean the difference between getting to go away for a good time or in missing
out. It's also useful for business reasons :)

Well seeing as we can travel nearly all of the north American continent with a driver's license I think the geographical argument holds much much more water.

That's sad staying in the US because you think no other country has anything to offer.

I DID until the dang youth passport expired. I don't plan on going overseas in the next couple years, so I'm not bothering to get one.
My parents never had one until our family vacation to England in 1994. They were both 45 years old.
There's really not much need for someone in the US to need a passport because the country is so huge and the only two countries you can travel to by land in any reasonable amount of time do not require a passport for us to enter. In Europe and Asia where you have entire nations the size of my home state of New Jersey or smaller and you could drive through quite a few of them in a single trip, it is more important and more useful.
