CIA: China Expected to Target U.S.

<< WASHINGTON ?? China is expected to have between 75 and 100 long-range nuclear missiles pointed at the United States by 2015, roughly quadruple the current number, according to a CIA report released Wednesday.

Many of those intercontinental ballistic missiles will be on mobile launchers, helping China maintain a nuclear deterrent against the vastly larger U.S. missile force, says the report, titled "Foreign Missile Developments and the Ballistic Missile Threat Through 2015."

Echoing earlier intelligence estimates, the report also says North Korea and Iran will probably have long-range missiles capable of reaching the United States by 2015. These assessments have been used to justify U.S. plans for multibillion-dollar missile defense systems capable of shooting down a limited ICBM attack on the continental United States.

Maybe they're taking the words of Sun Tzu under advisement:

Look weak when you're strong, and look strong when you're weak.

That's not how the quote exactly goes, unfortunately. Can someone correct me?

I think once their economy gets stronger, and capitalism starts to take over, which it will at a faster rate since Bush just signed this, that the communist governemnt will collapse. I'm no expert, I'm actually a moron, but I bet that by 2020 China will not be communist.

how is it? the economy is no longer solely controlled by the government, and they are no longer working towards the goal of everything being shared. i really see no aspects of communism in the government. an authoritarian party does not a communist government make.

have you been to china recently? it's really not *that* different from here... there are plenty of businesses, everybody has their own property, they don't have to share it with their neighbors or anything.

China is what the Soviet Union would of been if they just stuck with perestroika instead of scarpping the entire thing.

No I haven't been to China lately. I have never been. My POINT is that their government is controlled by communists. How can you dispute that?

it can be controlled by communists, but that doesn't make the government communist. btw, i dunno if it is controlled by communists in the first place, but regardless... they realize that communism will not work, so they have abandoned it in practice.

but seriously, what makes you think they're communist? because people call them communist? because they call themselves communist? examine the operation of the government, the lifestyle of the people, and you will find that it is *not* communist.

actualy there was a show on TV about this like a week ago, China is still communist but tried a radical new capitalist idea in a small area of China. it's just a small piece of China but people spend their life savings to take a risk and try to find a job or do anything to become just a secretary
one of the guys interviewed was actually a neurosurgeon but wanted to be a janitor so he could make more money
this new experimental part of China is richer than the rest of china and all land is presold before it is even developed. investors outside China are setting up factories left and right for the cheap labour

although China is officialy communist they may be finaly opening their eyes to see that communism just doesn't work (if that sounded racists im sorry, it's not supposed to)

second part is true, first part is not. the rest of china is not communist either. it's poor, but poverty doesn't entail communism. i don't see how anybody can see (instead of just reading or hearing about) china, and the people there, and think it's still communist. it is authoritarian, yes, but not communist.

although China is officialy communist they may be finaly opening their eyes to see that communism just doesn't work (if that sounded racists im sorry, it's not supposed to)

only an idiot would think that was racist :p

the only capacity in which they are officially communist is that they call themselves communist.

but yes, i know that city that you're talking about... it has a dark background though. beautiful as hell, dark background.

Should I have said, "Yippee! In a little over a decade China will have 100 ICBMs pointed directly at us!"

Furthermore, I'm not the person who wrote the article. Send a letter to the Washington Post if the article upsets you. Sheesh! :frown:

What the heck are you talking about? I could only find one other article I posted about China in which I said to take the article with a huge grain of salt.

Until China has a government similar to the one in Taiwan or here in the US, I'm continuing to call them Communist.

No arguments of how the people live, how the economy is will persuade me otherwise. :)

China was given WTO status because it has 1 billion potential and lucrative customers and corporate America wants in.

This coincides nicely with the fact that communicating with perceived enemies might allow both parties to avoid war and instead share prosperity. Isolating and ignoring China would only give them more incentive to become aggressive more quickly.

I'm not sure how it all will pan out and we may need to make war with China eventually but that will be entirely up to the Chinese.
