Is this the official 2013 Fantasy Football thread?

I usually go RB first and then decide the draft as it goes along. The order of pick depends on several factors:
1) Quality of players in each position and relative strength of players in each level
2) Scoring system (PPR, PPC, Points per yard etc.)
3) Draft Order

So for example if, in that year's QB class, the top 5 QB's are FAR more elite than remaining top 10 and if you're picking 12th in the draft, you may not have an opportunity to pick an elite QB. In that case, save the pick for a great player in another position and you can draft a GOOD QB later on in the draft.

In summary, my main strategy is to get the player rank by position and fantasy points from the previous year and evaluate their relative ranking before determining my next pick... which changes constantly over the course of the draft.

Then WR-WR

Then QB or maybe RB or WR depending on where I draft and what other QB's are on the board relative to the more important positions, WR and RB

I usually draft sleeper tight ends late and pick up another off waivers. I had Heath Miller all year last year before he got hurt and had picked him up off waivers.

My sleeper this year is Coby Fleener, TE for the Colts
 
Best available, always. All depends on my draft position.

Edit to add that scoring type makes a difference too. I was in a league for years with basic scoring, so we only got points for yards if over a certain number. That meant that RBs were usually most valued, followed by WR since they got 6 points for TDs, QBs only got 3 for throwing one.

Maybe someone could help me with my league? I draft at number 9 spot in a 10 team league. Scoring is standard ESPN rules. How do you guys believe I should approach this?

Also, where do you guys get your trusted rankings for the draft? Fantasypros.com?

Jimmy if avail. Really depends where I end up picking in most leagues how my strategy goes. Last year my 2 elite TE teams (Jimmy+Gronk) did pretty well until Gronk got injured and they were consistently scoring more than my more traditional teams..

If it's a snake draft, then it really depends on where I am drafting and what happens in front of me. Last year in my main 12 team league I went QB-TE and it ended up working out ok (finished 2nd). This year the consensus seems to be RB-RB, but I'm not sure that will work for me if I am picking past, say, 9th.

TE is the least important skill position in Fantasy Football. IN order of importance:

RB
WR
QB
TE
 
Sorry, I should have been more clear.. Yes, TEs may not be as important but Jimmy Graham is the exception IMO. It all depends on your draft type and position (and who is picking who ahead of you) but you're better off taking Jimmy Graham at 10 to 12 in a 12-team league over the 8th best RB.

Goes back to my original argument about relative strength of the players in each position or how much the skill level drops as you go down the ranks.

Looking for advice. In a keeper league, i'm keeping AP and Trent Richardson. I have the 9th overall pick in a snaking draft (12 teams). I'll most likely have the opportunity to pick up Tom Brady but i'm wondering if I should pick up a WR first since WR skill falls off more than QB. Even if I don't pick up Brady I'm thinking i'd have a good shot of picking up Romo, Kaep, Wilson, Luck, Flacco etc. etc. WR's I'm not so sure how big the depth is going to be. Thoughts?
 
I suggest using "The Magic Formula" when drafting (non-auction), at least for the early rounds.

It basically takes all the scores of players from the previous year according to your leagues current scoring rules and gives you a value of each position. The values will change as each player is drafted.

It helped me quite a bit when I found out about it last year. In the league I eventually won I was initially criticized for taking Drew Brees in the 1st round. I was going to go RB but using the magic formula I realized that the scoring settings heavily favored Quarterbacks and there was a huge dropoff between the top 3-4 Qbs and the rest. And I guess it did not hurt drafting Adrian Peterson in the 4th round 😛

Generally yes but it all depends on your leagues point settings.

You can't forget that Jimmy Graham did get as many points as top wide receivers in 2011 and if healthy he could easily do it again this year.

I plan on waiting a while for a QB this year, a bunch of legit quarterbacks emerged last year (Luck, RG3, Wilson, Kapernick, etc...).

Some sleepers I like:

RB -Mike Tolbert, Bilal Powell, Marcel Reece, Isaiah Pead
WR - Mohamed Sanu, Ryan Broyles, Justin Blackmon, Kenny Stills

I would keep an eye on what goes on with the Chargers wide receivers. Danario is out for the season, Malcolm Floyd is injured and Both Eddie Royal and Robert Meachem stink.

I would also watch the Saints wide receivers. Marques Colston has an injury (he will probably be ok) and Joeseph Morgan is out for the season. It could be a productive year for Lance Moore. Both Nick Toon and Kenny Stills have looked good in the preseason so far.
