<< I agree with Aaron, although obviously the way he chose to fight this battle is in very bad taste.
Yes, I believe a large number of people are naive.
Yes, it probably has something to do with geography because people who grow up in places where crime is a common thing will have a different outlook than those who grow up in a small town where everyone is nice and says 'howdy ya'll' every day.
No I don't think that by failing to notify a company of a shipment is wrong, as mentioned earlier they would do the same. Loss prevention? Whatever happened to TRYING to keep a customer by having good service. Besides, unless every person on earth starts being nice to companies, Loss Prevention (aka needless dicking around) won't be ending anytime soon. Try spending some time in a city for more than 2 years and having to deal with large companies. "Dicking around", as well as numerous other crackhead tactics employed by companies will make you realize that treating them with morals and expecting to get the same back is just foolish.
It's obvious, that most of the people here will disagree with what I said. Maybe they are, as Aaron hypothesized, from out in the middle of nowhere, or maybe they simply have been completely lucky their entire life. Regardless, there is no way to win a battle of morals on these forums unless you gain a majority of support and post the same drivel until everyone gives up, so I'll give up now and save you the trouble. G'night, and good luck, you'll need it. >>
And you simply become part of the problem, and contribute nothing to solving the problem.
For some reason, you are under the mistaken impression that I've led a sheltered life, have never beed screwed over by people or companies and I am naive. I assure you, you're wrong on all counts.
I am, however, mature enough to realize that it is counter productive to screw over everyone else, just because I've been had.
Morality and ethics begins with YOU. You can't expect everyone else to treat you right, if you're not willing to treat everyone else right. Shirking your moral responsibilities just because you think "everyone else does it" is merely an excuse, and solves nothing. If company A rips you off, that is NO reason for you to rip off company B. You simply become part of a vicious cycle.
You seem to think a person is a sucker if they have ethics and treat others as they would be treated. How terribly sad. One can have ethics, and still protect themselves from people who lack the proper ethics and morality to do honest business transactions with. We just have to "d!ck you around" a bit so we can check out your story.
Finally, when companies lose money to dishonest folks, they don't just take it up the rear, they add that cost into the prices they charge.
