Fixed. I doubt little Chinese kids are running around Beijing schools making fun of each other's eyes.

Then please do explain what is racism in your book?

Laws, rules or regulation that imply one race is superior to another.

Affirmative action being the most perfect example of racism.

This is certainly not the standard definition of racism. You don't have to have a law or regulation to be racist.

Racism is denying equal dignity or respect on the basis of race. And of course, that includes making fun of someone for the shape of their eyes or the size of their lips, when those features are characterisic of a race of people.

Nope, racisim is superiority or implied inferiority based on race.

Getting somebody's wittle feelings hurt is not racism. This PC crap has gotten way out of hand.

The most racist people I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with were Chinese probably due to China not being as diverse racially as a lot of other countries.

I'm not surprised because I think there's some truth in what you say and that is why I was really happy seeing how well our Olympic Basketball team has been received in China. I think the NBA will go a long ways to improving the image of other races to the Chinese people over there.

Hmm...Chinese enslave their own population. Whites enslave(ed) Blacks. Sad, mad world.

I'd have to say the Japanese are the worst - incredibly polite to your face but incredibly derogatory in private.

And no its not racist, just in very poor taste and beneath a national team. Same if the Olympics were held in Africa and everyone jutted out their jaw and pretended to have thick lips. Not racist, just tasteless.

I do think however, a national team should be held to a higher standard than say, a local football team.

I dont think we judge current situations by the past.....just because we have done some crappy things in the past doesnt mean they should be going on in the present. That is the most backwards argument I have ever heard.

Agreed. Chinese really looked down on almost every ethnicity other than Americans, Western Europeans, the japanese and maybe the koreans.

what? the majority of chinese/asians actually don't have "slanty eyes." But if you're really from Kentucky, then I guess you don't have too much basis for comparison.

Racist? No. Insensitive? Sure.

How is it insensitive? Are we saying the Chinese (or most Asians for that matter) are embarrassed to have slanted eyes?

then why do white people make fun of asians for it as though it's a bad thing?

Chinese embassy in Spain has pronounced the ad ?ni racista ni ofensivo.?

Good to know some people don't have a PC sticks rammed up their asses. You can get bent out of shape with just about anything when you take it out of the context with which it was meant to be viewed.

Maybe being Chinese American (or Taiwanese American depending on who you are), of all the problems I had with people coming from China, racism was never one of them. I'm curious to hear some feedback from you. If anything I think that some of them are fairly cocky and rude. But if being an asshole makes you racist then... damn I'm racist?

Just out of curiosity, what did the Chinese clients do or say that was racist?

They said a lot of derogatory shit about Blacks and Asians other than Chinese, especially the Vietnamese. Hated the fact that I had to rent to them.

i can see why some people would find that offensive, but obviously the spanish team did not think it was racist and it was not done in the spirit of racism... so if they aren't try to malign why make a big deal out of it?

words are words, gestures are gestures... if it is done out of malice or hate it should not be condoned, if not it should just be ignored. same reason my cracker ass can't call a random black person a n*****, but they happily use it as a term of endearment, its more about context...

I'm about 100% certain the dozens of people who were part of that ad did not thing "Hey lets go make a racist ad about China!!". If they thought it was bad, they would not have printed it which = it wasn't meant to be hurtful.

I do find it funny that I rarely hear white people complain of shit like this. You could call any random white person a redneck, cracker, make fun of dancing, etc....and there wouldn't be a worldwide outcry to make it stop.

I didn't find it particularly funny (don't see the humor) but I didn't find it racist either. If an Asian came up to me and widened there eyes while speaking, I would think "what in the hell is this person doing" but I would not think "I'm offended."

I just had a similar discussion today among a Pakistani and a Chinese woman. It was decided that white males cannot say anything without being offensive but it was ok for the Pakistani to mock my German heritage. Of course, we were all just joking but it is a fair point. I don't get offended when people say cracker, redneck, kraut, or whatever. I guess the Pakistani was right and us Germans have thick skins.

I always find it remarkable how many white people throw out all the counterexamples to argue that things are never racist. You just don't get it.

Hey hey now...you are generalizing white people, you racist. I'm offended.
