Bullshit. Of course it's racist. But who cares, it's not illegal to be a racist... in America... yet. I know there are some fucked up laws in the UK regarding racism, dunno about Spain.

Please explain how it is racist. I'd like to hear that one.

Let's say it was being hosted in Africa and the Spain team decided to make their lips huge, would that not be racist?

Are you implying that African people have huge lips? I think that makes you a racist.

Your example is really stupid and just more goddamn PC bullcrap. Just because somebody takes offense doesn't mean it's racist.

Do you even know what racism is?

There's various definitions.

"Discrimination or prejudice based on race." / "based on racial intolerance; "racist remarks"

The gestures used in my example can be interpreted as much.

Well that is the stereotype hence the example. A lot of Asians have slanty eyes (hell look at my avatar). Implying (or using something for an example) and carrying out an action is different however.

How is that? Have you seen Chinese people? They often have somewhat slanty eyes.
There is no discrimination or prejudice here. It is merely imitation.

Some people consider "racially insensitive" the same thing as racist.

"Racial discrimination typically points out taxonomic differences between different groups of people, even though anybody can be racialised, independently of their somatic differences." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racism

IE: big lips, slanted eyes or the color of their skin.

Not racist. Funny as hell to be honest. People need to stop being little pansys. I laugh at all the jokes people make about Indians most of the time :)

No, but why do you feel the need to put your fingers up there and slant your eyes at them? Explain to me this new form of greeting.

I don't understand the "slanted eyes" terminology. Their eye openings are narrow, not necessarily slanted. One has nothing to do with the other. White peoples' eyes are just as likely to be slanted.

And yeah, it's racist. I'm not "sensitive" or "offended", just calling it like I see it. Wasn't everyone here up in arms about Rosie O'Donnell imitating Chinese speech? How is that different?

I don't get how white people are all saying this isn't racist. It doesn't apply to you. So why would u think it otherwise? Walk in another man's shoes... I am glad the crowd reacted like they did, these things shouldn't be let go. I hope they continue booing at every spain game. Racist YES Tasteless YES

Actually, I think thats exactly why it isn't racist. Where is the discrimination or intolerance?

I don't think anyone on OT complained when Russell Peters made his Asian jokes.

But, the only thing "funny" to me about it was that they thought it was a good idea. Even if it was funny to you, it was still in poor taste and I can understand the backlash. If the Olympics were in India and they made an ad where all the ball players were holding their hands in front of their pelvises with their fingers 3 inches apart I don't think you'd take lightly to us telling you not to be so sensitive.

Would you be offended if they called you round-eye? All this fake outrage is stupid.

Our PC-ness makes us look so stupid throughout the world. THEY ARENT ASHAMED TO HAVE DIFFERENT EYES THEN US. If they are, then that is a complex that we should exploit for humor anyway.

Well I think for most Asians its insensitive because the slanted eye motions have only been used as an insult in the past. I would guess from the 40s to maybe 80s. Kind of like how other terms like "beautiful ray of sunshine", "jap", don't really mean anything other than as an insult. Those words bring pain to certain people just like this image. In my opinion it comes down to being culturally insensitive. As Americans we're ok because we don't identify or relate to the image.[/quote]

Probably not, but if they were to go out of their way in widening their eyes with their fingers whenever they talk to you I am more than certain you are probably thinking what the F is wrong with this dude.

Laws, rules or regulation that imply one race is superior to another.

Affirmative action being the most perfect example of racism.

On a personal level this is racist to me because that is how other kids would make fun or ridicule me when I was a kid -- so this gesture has plenty of negative connotations to Asians.
