In college, based on my gender, financial background, area of study and academic performance I was eligible for a full ride scholarship...

if I were Hispanic.

As it was, I didn't get a dime for school in scholarships because I'm white.

I went to a high school that was about 95% Black & Latino. The highest level math class offered was pre-algebra, and it was taught by the same teacher who taught other math classes. So if you wanted to take Pre-Algebra and were LUCKY, you might get in the class. I did not get in it, so in 12th grade I was doing fractions. Something most kids would be doing in 5th grade, what a great way to get a person prepared for college right? Ironically the math I did in 6th grade was probably a level higher than what I was doing my senior year.

Previously I went to a pretty bad mostly white high school, there were at least options there. But compared to the one I finished in, the white school was an ivy leave school. Bad minority filled high schools are significantly worse than a mostly white bad school. This is a huge disadvantage.

People who use Obama as "proof" are fucking stupid, I know a functioning Crackhead who works at a store I frequent. they've been smoking crack for 15 years and still hold a full time job and actually look very healthy. So I guess that means all crack heads should be able to smoke crack and still maintain right? Some things are considered exceptions to the rule for a reason. And if you make the exception the example you're doing it wrong.
 
not at all. IF its ok to have other scholarships based off race then it should be fine to have one as white only.

The shitty high school you describe is shitty because of programs like affirmative action. They lower thier standards knowing that the more kids they graduate, the more will get shoved into colleges that need to hit thier "diversity targets", and dont need to meet academic standards because blacks are held to a lower standard, you know, because they are "disadvantaged"

It didn't get that shitty over night, it was little by little, for decades.

And what about a white kid who went to that shitty school? And was only able to take pre-algebra? Because he is supposedly "more advantaged" the the others because of his race, he ends up being the most screwed of all.
 
In the end, I don't think this is racist at all, and I also see that race-based scholarships are very, very important.

That is not to say that quotas for admission or recruiting are problematic. This is different than offering a scholarship.
 
I think that scholarship should be based on wheter the student is able to pay for school or not.
Blacks have disadvantages and have problems getting the money?
Then they will get most of the scholarships, because they're poorer than white people.
If that doesn't happen, it means it's not true or there are racist people around.

I'm with Morgan Freeman. Racial propaganda being blown up my ass is annoying. My dad's side of my family is either in jail for gang or drug related crimes, and yet here I am...an electrical engineer working for a Defense Contractor with no criminal record at all...

I don't understand how people can say with a straight face that a "black scholarship" isnt racist and a "white scholarship" is. Just because one group in the minority that means it's not racist anymore? wtf? If people want racism eradicated than stop treating people differently because of their skin color. Simple as that...

I've got to agree. I was applying for scholarships when I was in school and if I had been a minority there would have been tons more that I could have applied for. Sure, minorities are statistically more likely to come from families with problems, go to worse schools, or be of a socio-economic class that has less advantages. While it's less likely that a white male came from that background there still are plenty that do. Those white males that come from a bad situation will have significantly less opportunity than anyone else, they don't have any of the advantages that people claim white males have and they are eligible for far less scholarships.

What they really need to do is start looking at aid based on a person's background, not their race. Some races may be more likely to be in a situations that make it difficult to get ahead, but that doesn't mean that other people from other races can't be just as bad.

Came from a single parent home with a mom that works two jobs to make ends meet? Sure, you need help no matter what race you are.

Came from a black family that was well off with two parents that both went to college and earn good money? Why on earth would you need a scholarship just because you're black? You've got more advantages than a huge portion of the population!

The paradox is that as long as there are things like affirmative action or scholarships that target specific groups based on ethnicity there will be a need for them. Choosing people based on race rather than merit or need breeds dependence and also sends the message that it's ok for them to be less skilled, knowledgeable or hard working because of "past injustice".

As long as people keep on believing that they're owed something due to their race it's impossible for them to be equal. That belief is the definition of inequality.
 
Yes it is, and so are black only scholarships, or asian only. Time we see beyond skin color people. We are all one people.
