Is this PSU enough power?

I'm pretty sure what I ahve in my computer is:

http://www.mwave.com/mwave/skusearch.hmx?SCriteria=BA20623&CartID=done&nextloc=

Right now, I am using an Intel Pentium D CPU 3.40GHZ (dual core), 2gigs of OCZ Gold DDR667. and ASUS GeForce 7900GTX. I've been experiencing lockups and blue screen crashes.

My question is if you think it is the power supply or the video card is faulty? I can't get through 5 minutes of any 3d application without crashing, but i am also getting some blue screen lock ups just doing normal ****** like browsing the net, etc. I had figured the video card was faulty as I have heard many problems with them and they seemed similar to mine so I am in the process of doing an RMA and my new video card which is an ASUS X1900XT pcie16x 512mb will be here monday.

I guess my main question is if the PSU will provide enough power for my system or could my problems be coming from the PSU and not the vid card? Is there a way to see exaclty what PSU is in your comp without taking it out and looking at it, because I couldn't find it in device manager or DXdiag

Thanks for any help.

So its ok during normal 2d operation but only crashes during games? If its so, then heat or psu issues are common problems.

it blue screens/crashes as well during 2d operations as well, but more often in 3d.

I dont think it is heat as GPU temp on idle is about 45 and in 3dmark it was only 50-54*C
CPU is 18 idle and about 26 at most in 3dMARK / bf2, etc.
MB is about 49-55*C

If thats your psu I dont think you have enough amps on your 12 volt rail (28amps). Are you overclocking? Do you have multiple hard drives ? How many case fans do you have?

The temp of your MB seems a bit high since usually this is one of the components with the lowest temp.
As for the PSU ; it's not a very reliable PSU but it has more than enough power for your system.
Did you check your voltages in the bios?

Yes, I ran driver cleaner each time I cahnged the drivers. The 7900GTX is ASUS brand.

I'm not overclocking right now and I have 2 hard drives and 3 or 4 case fans. Should I turn off some fans?

I've been told the MB temp isn't that bad but I'm not positive? I will check my voltages in the bios and let you know.

no, I'll take a look at the voltages in the bios.

vcore: 1.216
3.3v: 3.360
5v: 5.134
12v: 12.268

Is that what you were talking about ijscobar?

Also, my cousing brought his external hard drive over and we were transfering music between eachother. I did notice it seemed to crash more while we were doing that as well.

I allready have been granted a full refund for the video card by Newegg and I ordered an ASUS X1900XT and a powercolor tv tuner card with the money. THey should be here no later than monday, and then I am going to return the GeForce. If the problem is actually the power supply, that's going to suck as I had just bought this athena one for $65.00 ( college student / tight budget =( )and i'd have to wait even longer to get this working.

thoughts?

I unplugged 3 case fans, a hard drive, and a cd rom drive and I still got lock ups in both 3dMark and BF2. The only ****** connected was motherboard, video card, 1 hard drive, 1 cd rom drive. This makes me think that it is indeed a graphics card problem and not an inadequate power supply. WHat do you think?

Also, i tried running that hardware doctor program that you linked Happy Medium, and I get an error "Run-Time error '52': Bad file name or number"

Dumb question, but did you forget to hook the power plug to the card?
What kind of system does you cousin have, does he have a video card?(troubleshoot)
x1900xt draws more power than your card . I guess you know that.
a 7900gt should work with your psu,you could overclock it.

To be honest with your cpu you won't see much difference between a 7900gtx, and a 7900gt overclocked.

I don't know what that error is (run time52)

I think its your video card.

oh yea ,what drivers you using? Try these 1.9.1.3.1. http://www.ngohq.com/home.php?page=File...cat&dwn_cat_id=10&go=giveme&dwn_id=296

Yes, the power is connected to the card. My cousin has a laptop so can't do that. My roomate also has a laptop.

i've tried the nvidia drivers, asus drivers, and am currently using the xtremeg drivers. I'll try those that you linked I suppose. Either way though, the card is going back to newegg monday and i'm putting in the 1900xt. I figure if it still doesnt work then, then i need an ew power supply too, and i'll have to get one.

I guess my main question now is should this PSU work with the x1900xt or do you think I will need to upgrade. And if so, what would you suggest? ( Keep in mind that i am on a college student budget =) )

Love to help but I,m not sure about power supplies. I think you need like 30 amps on the 12 volt rail for a x1900.

no way, power requirements for an x1900xt in your rig is 360w and 27amps on the 12v rail(s) combined. My suggestion to your solution is to go with a 430w seasonic s12, or something of comparable quality and efficiancy. I'm pretty sure that's a crap psu.

I think I may be having similar problems to you. Your computer will start, run fine for awhile, and then lock up right? I receantly got a 7300GS PCI-E (just needed a card to last me over till UT2007. The only game I play is Battlefield 2 and my integrated 6150LE wasn't really up to the task anymore after a new monitor purchase *Bigger monitor*) Since the second I put it in, it'll run fine for awhile, then lock PC up dead out of the blue. Hope it is PSU, or rather, hope it's not so I can get a defective product refund

(Oh, and I have a 300w PSU. It wasn't a problem before the vid card, so I'm not sure if it is now. The min req for that card is listed at 300w so it should have been fine. 2 case fans, a sata HDD, a DVD drive, a mem stick reader etc have to be run through the PSU though so..who knows if that broke the camels back)
