It happens in my back yard ALL the time. My wife throws seed on the porch, the Mourning Doves come down to eat ... the the hawks come down to eat the doves.

my dad has inadvertently started a quail refuge in his backyard. the hawks wont swoop in his yard (afraid of his cat that snatched one out of the air) so the quail have set up shop under a couple large pots on his porch. pretty cool, but a pain to deal with as visitors. cant bother the birds, lol.
