Is this possible?

I was walking home the other day and I noticed all the pigeons starting flying away. Suddenly, I saw a very large hawk attack a pigeon. There was a flurry in the air but what came down was both of the pigeon's wings. Nothing else. I never realized that birds ate other birds.

See it all the time. We have hawks and the occasional eagle that enjoy munching on the doves and meadowlarks that live around our house. They don't seem to mess much with the other birds, although we do occasionally find dead sparrows, finches, cardinals, etc....

Of course out in the country we see much more of that thing. If you want to see something hilarious watch an owl chase a frog or snake across the ground sometime.

It happens in my back yard ALL the time. My wife throws seed on the porch, the Mourning Doves come down to eat ... the the hawks come down to eat the doves.

Where the hell is my facepalm pic when I need it?

Here's a little fact of life for ya Dari....big birds eat little birds, big fish eat little fish...and so on and so on...

They are dinosaurs. Dinosaurs ate other dinosaurs back in the day!

/facepalm

Being this stupid, this early in the morning is not a good thing. I hope you're not leaving the house today.

Wow. A comeback as stupid as your OP. You're on a roll today.

Seriously, before this educational moment, what did you think large predatory birds like hawks, eagles, etc. eat?

Well, I was going to say something about your mom, wife and daughter but decided to pick one of your 'pet' projects. You're lucky I went that route...

EDIT: As for your other question, I live in NYC and we rarely see such large birds. I assumed they ate rodents, snakes, bugs...

I'm thinking the whole "rip the wings off, no meat in em anyway" while flying is pretty impressive.
I watch ospreys fishing out west. They grab a fish and then carry it aligned to the direction of flight to reduce drag. One time at Yellowstone Lake were driving along and watched the osprey grab a fish close to the road, and then fly over us very close to the windshield. The fish was flapping it's tail like it was assisting in the process!
