what the hell does a xmas tree have anything to do with religion? it does not force you to do anything except maybe think about the tragic day you found out santa was fake.

I say we start cutting down all pine trees or anything that resembles one, they are very offensive...

I was driving through the local Governemnt national forest last weekend when lo and behold, thousands of Christmas trees, growing right up out of the ground! On government property no less. If that's not in conflict with separation of church and state then I dont know what is. I'm going to start a petition to demand that the government chop down all the pine trees in the forest.

WTF? I studied in an Indian School in Saudi Arabia - and even there, we celebrated Diwali/Christmas.

This is all this thread needs to know.

I would say that anyone offended by a token of a happy season, such as a x-mas tree, has far deeper rooted issues, than just being offended by the tree. OP should seek counseling, STAT!

The tree is not a Christian symbol. It's a symbol of long dead religions, and is now secular. Moshquerade, he isn't part of the problem- religious symbols have no place in a public school. It's just that a tree is not a religious symbol.
why can't we have any religious symbols in our schools? do you think our forefathers forbade them? we have become so afraid of offending the minority that what the majority thinks doesn't mean crap.

i think the majority has become the new minority.

Because no matter what you think, state sponsored religion is illegal. That includes a public school putting up a creche, a mosque, or a menora. As soon as you start justifying things by saying that the majority doesn't mind, you are on the path to fascim!

Don't believe in slippery slopes? Look at what happened in politics. First we accepted George Bush claiming that God talked to him, and now the evangelical right has a significant political voice.

So what if you're Jewish? If you get offended by an undecorated Christmas tree, then are we to assume that you don't go outside during the Christmas holidays? Hell, why not just cut down all of the pine trees in America? We can eliminate religious prejudice altogether!
