What's the difference between "dishonesty" and "fraud" in this regard?

Two chips:

1. FX 8350 4GHZ/4.2GHZ Turbo = 4GHZ Processor
2. FX 9590 4.7GHZ/5GHZ Turbo = 5GHZ Processor

Seems clear-cut to me; deliberate dishonesty in one of the lines above. Do you know which one?

Yes. The fact that AMD has to depart from all conventions, norms, and plain common sense to overclock a product 18%, at 80% power consumption penalty, for a less than 18% performance gain, at the insanely ludicrous price of $800+. It doesn't even have an igp for basic video output for anyone who might only be interested in the cpu for something other than gaming; eg. overclockers, crunchers, rendering, encoding, etc. So tag on $50 for a low-end video card and a few extra watts for good measure.

This. Or you can go get an FX 8350, a video card, overclock and get the same experience.

Or better yet, get an i7 4770k and have an even better experience with a mild overclock.

I'm not advocating the product, but you are far from guaranteed to hit the base/turbo of the 9590 when you OC a 8350.

This thread is about if there is fraud or not. The conclusion is that the accusation of fraud was invented.

This is not a thread to discuss the chip technology, performance, pricing... This is not the thread to advertise i7 4770k. The only reason why the i7 4770k was mentioned here is because the Haswell chip is being advertised by its turbo speed in TD

galego if those two images you post are in the AMD ad I would say that it is NOT fraud and NOT deceptive. However my friend, I think it's time to move on.

Exactly, although I did see an add in TD that did not show the "up to" qualifier, and on the same page a link to an i7 that advertised it at 3.4ghz. More to the point, has anyone found any site that has the higher clocked cpu available? Last time I checked, it wasnt listed as available anymore.

Those images are from the slides used by AMD in the official presentation at E3. The images are reproduced in several news sites.

Anand did not reproduce the images/slides when covering the news but wrote:

The FX-8350 had a base clock of 4.0GHz with a maximum Turbo Core clock of 4.2GHz; the FX-9590 in contrast has a maximum Turbo clock of 5GHz and the FX-9370 tops out at 4.7GHz. We’ve asked AMD for details on the base clocks for the new parts, but so far have not yet received a response; we're also missing details on TDP, cache size, etc. but those will likely be the same as the FX-8350/8320 (at least for everything but TDP).

6/13/2013 Update: We have now received the most important pieces of information from AMD regarding the new parts. The base clock on the FX-9590 will be 4.7GHz and the base clock of the FX-9370 will be 4.4GHz, so in both cases it will be 300MHz below the maximum Turbo Core speed.

Someone in this thread (or it was in the other?) partially quoted AMD news release. He forgot to mention that the news release states that 5GHz is the "MAX TURBO"

Anyone who thinks it's fraud shouldn't be wasting their time on the forums but instead making money via a class action lawsuit for deceptive practices. If they're right, THEN they can go back to this thread and go "neener-neener" and wave around a wad of cash. If they're wrong, they wasted their own time and money and already paid the price for being wrong.
