Is this forum slowly fading away? Especially the FS/TRADE forum?

I used to be able to crack jokes about stuff I've read here. Now its just a place to practice arguing with people.
 
Maybe someone can drag all the pissed off old-timers back from their secret forum to bring this place back to its glory days.
 
Xbone came out along with PS4, and everyone scoffed at the hardware that was maybe equivalent to a pretty-good PC in 2008.







Now everyone has Xbone or PS4. Thats why nobody buys PCs.
 
I was told a ton of people were banned in the months before I came to this forum. Why don't you just unban all the trolls and let them run free?
 
Definitely not what it used to be.
I can't speak for everyone, but my reasons for coming here have changed quite a bit since I have grown up.

I used to come here for hardware and gaming advice and for general news and unbridled opinions on various topics.
Since I have grown up and gotten out of gaming, I no longer need advice on computer hardware. I simply game on my iPhone a few minutes a day.

Now the most exciting thing about the forum for me, is the new Home and Garden sub. 😀

So they can still sell some high end cards. There will always be a need for workstations, and some people will be gaming on PCs for while longer. But it's not just that the hardware platform is changing/fading. The application environment used to be much more homogenous. Now you're got mobile devices, web apps, etc. My kids are in their late teens and twenties now, and while they all had laptops for schoolwork they never looked at them as anything other than bulky anachronisms: something to use Word on, and maybe play Sim City. Everything else is about their phones, and what gaming they do is on consoles.

So yeah, to the extent this community was built around geek PC hardware hobbyists, gamers and professional admins it will probably continue to feel less and less relevant. That energy has sort of moved on. It's all happening in the maker movement now, with Raspbery Pis and Arduinos and robotics kits, etc.
 
Well, they wont let us talk to each other the way we want, so what do you expect?

Let's face it, forums modeled like this are antiquated technology already. Many of us here just come out of habit at this point because we've been doing it for 15 years. I signed up for this forum when I was like 15 years old to help with computer builds and associate with other like minded people. How many 15 year olds are signing up on a forum like this in the year 2015? I'll bet not many. The methods have changed.

I still like discussing PC games with people who arent on PC gaming forums. They tend to be quite obnoxious.
Phones too. On regular phone forums people can be stupid or weird, or both.
I actually get decent conversations here.

You're right. I am willing to bet the average age of users on this forum has increased by about 15 years since the forums began.

^ Probably true. When I first joined there just wasn't as much info readily available for the enthusiast. If you needed to troubleshoot something tech forums were the way to go.

I'm 35 now and still coming here just because I have for the last 14 years. "ATOT effect" is simply gone ...better off getting someone on Twitter to follow you. FS/FT is slow too.
