Without big increases in pc speed yearly, there is no need to go onto the forums anymore.

Me too, you aren't the only one like that. I think it explains the success of free to play games. If you have to pay for more content at least the original game is free, because face it, the original game is basically worthless.

I've had zero interest in any other big releases and I'm basically just doing my own thing. The gaming community is completely fragmented. People buying the new COD or Destiny, or BF Hardline or whatever in an attempt to keep up with the Jones' are getting ripped off.

Indie games & freemium games are where its at. War Thunder has like 100k simultaneous active users, like old Starcraft days or something. And its a freemium game. I'd rather throw $5 a month at that game than $100 something on the next EA same shit as the last game but no one plays the old one because we made a new one scheme. Playing warthunder I've realized plane combat is a terribly frustrating game design though. Next freemium shooter of warthunder quality is going to be the next big thing with like 200k active in deathmatch games I reckon. It definitely won't be EA. I seriously do not buy EA games anymore out of principle. They are fleecing people down.

Yeep x2

Whatever happened to custom maps or games you can modify?

DLC or "extra content" is basically legal cheating. Companies enabled users to BUY cheats and give them advantage.

I also hate the fact that people that play the game 24/7 have an edge/better weapons etc. What kind of shit is that?

Get in the game, give people same weapons and let the skill/experience do the work.

Entire gaming industry is just flawed.

All forums are dying. The reason I came here in 2012 was because every PC forum I belonged to had pretty much died about 2010, some earlier than that.

I think the entire internet is dying, soon it will be nothing but selfies, cat pictures, and chain letters. The entire human race will become fully absorbed in the latest viral mem and spend all their time listening to music video remakes of songs first written and preformed 30 years ago.

And linkbait.

"...Grocery stores hate him!..." <pic of old man>

"...Banks HATE when you do this..." <pic of sneaky looking mom>

I remember the days when you couldn't keep a for sale thread on the first page. Now, it just sits and sits. Is the forum falling apart or is the used PC market drying up? I hope neither as I get my upgrades from here and would hate to have to pay retail.

Same thing is happening with Open outcry, it is dying as well.

You guys who like to play with facts, graphs and numbers might want to figure this part out. Does the percentage decline in the users here closely match the annual expected death rates among people in the USA as a whole? And you would have to adjust the graphs a bit for banned accounts, too, I would imagine. If those 2 graphs matched closely, plotted since this forums launch, then members are literally dying off out there, and most of us would never even know what happened unless someone else knew who they were. And I would imagine most of the members out there might fall into this category.

Are you suggesting that someone out there is literally killing off AT members at a rate faster than new ones sign up?

How many posts do we really get a day here? It's been pretty bad the past few weeks. This place seems to be nearing the end of it's useful life.

Old, tried and true is no longer the fad, bragging how much you paid for your monthly upgrade is.

Anandtech is soon to be at its end... Sad. This has kept me entertained since around 2002.

On second thought, computers are now considered appliances now. It is easier to throw away then repair or upgrade, who upgrades their microwave when it gets old rather then replaces it.

this forum has been on the decline since they split out the off topic forum into a billion "off topic sub forums" which was completely retarded and to this day think it was still a terrible idea. the best part about off topic back in the day was you could come to this place and you would find every type of thread unrelated to pc gear in this forum. now you have to go through like 10 different forums to get all of those. it's dumb.

This is it on the head as far as I'm concerned.

I used to go to ATOT and read about things I'd NEVER read and learn about otherwise. Breaking everything into separate niches killed the "wild west" mentality that was found in ATOT. Things became WAY too compartmentalized and you had WAY less of a spectrum of participants in threads.

The entire "Social" section needs to be lumped back into ONE section (yes, even P&N). I'm actually interested in things like The Garage and Home and Garden, but never venture into those sub categories.

So stupid.

Thats the other issue is banning too many members.

Apparently you have to be crazy to fit in here, judging by the ones left.

Its like the old Radar Oven days, back when Microwaves were called Radar Ovens you had forums dedicated to them.

Eventually as Microwave ovens became appliances that are cheap and disposable, the forums ended up dying as no one was interested in new Magnetron technologies or swapping out HV supplies.

How many people are really buying those things though? Heck I just upgraded to a 7950 and that will keep me rolling for quit a while.

10,000 sales in the entire world would be 50 million in revenue.

ICOM still sells 15,000 dollar ham radios and the sell tons of them.
