Is this fake or real? if real what the hell? (tank picture)

Its a ballistic testing chamber that they test the power and the velocity of the shell being fired. I've seen two other apparatus just like this one, only shaped differently. Its essentially the same thing as a 55 gallon drum with gelatonous water in, that the police ballistics lab fire pistols, rifles and machine gun rounds into for testing.

So thats how tanks multiply...

Correct. This is an artillery silencer. Strange, but true. 🙂

See? They even make silencers for tanks. Now if they'd only make one for my mother-in-law. 😀

Conflicts with wnied's comment. 😕

But what would be the point of a silencer on this thing? I thought the projectiles get tracked by radar and not by sound. (thought somebody said so up there). Silencing wouldn't affect it showing up on the radar, right?

It cannot possibly be a silencer. The ammo it fires is supersonic. Silencers cannot be used with supersonic ammunition.

They can, its just not as effective.

Besides, WTF is the point of silencing an artillery piece?

I'm pretty sure it's photoshop, It actually looks like a modular bomb shelter to me (you know, you burry them). Either that or camo air compressor tanks.

Well, since nobody else is listening to you, wnied, I thought I'd let you know that atleast I am. 🙂 Wnied is correct. It's not a silencer. That would be fcking stupid. That thing isn't even mobile, so there's no point in putting a suppressor on a tank.

Besides... when the military resorts to using tanks, stealth isn't their number one priority.

The funny thing is that essentially this same thread was on a russian board about a year ago. (use the fish to translate)

Apparently it really is a silencer, used to limit the noise pollution from the range.

The Germans seem to have done a lot of research in this area (but many of the links are broken).

werd... THat was my first guess....you can't very well shoot a shell that size into a tank of water and test it that way.....

German artillery is the world's most quiet, followed by French artillery. They simply refuse to use it.

That is why I respect canadians....they only have 1 tank but they push that badboy to the limit until the treads are nearly failing off...

Now THAT's patriotism...
