Is making $80k a year for a 26 year old good living on the west coast enough these days?

The line of work is irrelevant. Is $80k a year good enough these days compared to the populous?

You make more than probably 3/4 of all HOUSEHOLDS in the US. You're fine.

Although by ATOT standards you're dirt fucking poor and should probably /wrist right NOW since you don't make 6 figs.

Where? LA, Maybe not.
Modesto, yes.

Please elaborate.

Cost of living is higher in LA than it is in Modesto. Therefore, you get more for 80k in Modesto than you would in LA.

yea. dont you know you aren't successful by ATOT standards unless it's over 200k.

If you can't live off of 80k a year then you are terrible with money. I honestly don't care where you live in the US. In some areas this may not be a ton of money but no matter where you are it's plenty to live off of and have enough left over.

80k is 50k after taxes.

3k / month for housing = 36000
500 / month for utilities = 6000
200 / month for food = 2400

Total of listed: 44,400

This isnt totaling everything obviously but then again if you are paying 3k / month for your house I hope you're making more than 80k per year.

Yeah, WA/OR, 80K for a single person is plenty- hell, I'm living on half that.

LA, wouldn't know- but CA in general is more $$$

The question of "is this enough money?" is answered by a very simple YES.

You just have to be smart with your money and BUDGET (a skill which many have forgotten how to do).

very expensive house.... about 1k more than most people would even think about paying. I just threw some numbers down real quick to actually quantify how much 50k after taxes can buy you.

I am single. This is my money. You do not need to be rude. Please leave.

Sorry, I just came out of the "crazy ex" thread...and I assumed that this thread was some kind of joke, since I'm living on a quarter of that and it's "enough".

i've always wondered about the threads here. why do people post stuff like:

What small yacht should i buy?
should i buy a house with a 2000$ payment?
I make XXX,XXX dollars, is that enough?

whats up with people coming here and posting this stuff? you always have to wonder if it's a troll, or they are genuine and just don't have any real life people they could ask...

anyway.

yes, it's enough. move on.

Yep. My taxable income last year was less than 1/2 of the 80k in the thread and I managed to save a couple grand.

hehe, well mine was half half of half of half of half that, and we did fine. :) and the 3 month i worked in irvine at the end of the year didn't even count. thankfully, i got my taxes back from cali since i wasn't a resident.

you can pretty well manage on almost anything, just depends on your lifestyle.

I'm not sure how someone could afford a house at 3000k a month especially only living on 50k after taxes per year. ;)
