Is this all "compatible"?

Hey guys I've been browsing the forums the last few days but havent registered until now. Me and a friend were up for a few hours looking for parts and pieces and all at Newegg and I think we got about everything.. Just wanted to know if I was missing something, should get additional cooling, one piece wont work eith another, or if you know anywhere cheaper for some of the same stuff etc or if you would swap something out for another thing, etc. (i really dont want to go over $1200 total (with shipping) though.. anyway thx for looking at this stuff if you do 🙂

Oh yeah, I wouldnt overclock right away .. I would probably after a few months consider overclocking it. Not to its limits or anything but just a little bit like on the CPU or video card or however that stuff works..

Looks like you made some good choices. One thing I would change is the sound card. The MSI K8N NEO4's on-board sound is pretty decent and is more than adequate if you're going to be using headphones. The value sound card you listed isn't going to improve the quality that much, IMO. It's not worth it when considering price/performance over the integrated sound on the motherboard. I would either drop the sound card altogether or else upgrade to this one:

SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS. You can get the OEM if it's cheaper, doesn't really matter. I linked the retail version since it's only 2 dollars more than OEM with the rebate.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16829102162

The case you chose looks fine but, if it were me, I'd choose a case with 120mm fans instead of 80mm. The 120mm fans give better cooling with less noise. I'll never buy a case with 80mm fans again for the noise reasons.

As for the CD ROM drive, I recommend this one:

NEC ND-3540A
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827152047

It's by far the best deal on a combo DVD burner/CD burner drive. I have the older version (ND-3520) and am very happy with it's price/performance.

Edit: The CPU you chose is great, I've been running that one myself and have had great success overclocking it.

I'd recommend getting the Venice core instead. It's a more recent core than the Winchester. The only real difference between the two cores is that the more recent Venice supports SSE3 where Winchester does not. For a few dollars more the Venice is rumored to be a slightly better overclocker than the WInchester too.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103533
or try to find an OEM version for a few dollars less someplace else.

Cool guys. So when the MOBO is installed the sound that comes with it is installed in the process? and its good?

Yeah i tihnk I will use the Venice core. I'll look into more cases.... any suggestions on cases under 75$?

Also, would i still need that Arctic 5 Thermalstuff or whatever if the Venice Retail comes with a heatsink? (i can drop off that heatsink I had right, sense the Venice Retail for 10$ more comes with one?)

thx 🙂 Btw I liek this case...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16811129158

500W power supply antec with 4 5.25" external bays.. I'll post it in the Cases area in a bit I know I said under 75$ but it turns out if I dont use that 50$ power supply and then with the shipping and handling to alaska anyway, + getting rid of the audigy2 etc etc it'd still be cheaper than was before! =]

edit: are you sure Powercolor or whatever, is a good brand for those ?

Hard Drive?

I also wouldn't spend 60 at worst buy on a keyboard. Get a cheapy, maybe a cheapy ergo if that is what floats your boat. Both can be had for under 20 online.

Definately get the X800XL, much better product, the 16 pixel pipelines will help tremendously when palying games at high res w/ AA.

And YES, Powercolor is a very good brand. The 9700 I am running in the comp in my sig is a Powercolor and I couldn't be happier. Well as soon as my power supply arrives and I fire up my A64/X800XL system I'll be happier 😉

lol aight, thanks Matt. 🙂

My harddrive is a 250GB 7500RPM soemthing or other, i think it has SATA connectors .. i didnt install it my self but I did pick it out and sadly i dont remember :\ .. but in any case im using the same hard drive thats why its not listed .

I live in alaska so the shipping and handling is kind of ugly up here thats why I chose to get the keyboard at bestbuy. I stay up late playing games and that is why I need the Eclipse, im not just getting it because it looks cool.... =/ 😛 heh

As for the wrist band i havn't had a single prob in all the systems i have worked on but that is up 2 u. All the rest looks great.

Yes, the motherboard has the sound built in. The only thing you have to do to use it is install the drivers. You will do that anyway. Once you have everything installed and the system fired up pop in the CD that comes with the mobo and that will have all the drivers you need. It's simple.

The retail version of the CPU comes with a heatsink and fan. The heatsink has thermal compound applied to it from the factory so you do not need any Arctic Silver if you buy the retail version. And, yes, you can drop the heatsink you picked out in your original post if you buy the retail version of the CPU. It comes with everything you need right out of the box.

That case and power supply are sweet! The 500W PS is more than you'll need and will provide a stable, clean power source. That's going to be a sweet system once you get it built!

Looks good to me.

Edit: As mentioned above the artic silver isn't necessary but it might be nice to have if you get into overclocking down the road.

I guess i prolly wont overclock at least not for a long time .. Also..

Does the Venice core 3500+ generate a lot more heat than the Winchester 3500+ ?

And the POWERCORD X800XT card ( i think that waas the name ), thats a good brand right? And the card wont be noisy or anything?

Ok i think this is my final stuff as of now for this Mobo and all.

one last th ing I need -- a good antivirus!! anyone know a really good Antivirus for gamers? (aka does not lag hardly at all or not noticable etc.., but also has very good protection and doesnt have dumb stuff like "HEY WE FOUND THIS VIRUS... but btw we cant fix it so we're just gonna put it somewhere else and let it multiply over time" .. =] thx

Isn't pqi kind of generic? I'd go with some quality stuff like Corsair or OCZ. Why do you need 2GB of RAM? If you're just a gamer, then 1GB should be plenty. The $250 X800XL that krnxpride83 mentioned will save you $35. Why did you ditch the Antec case/PSU? Lian Li's are pretty overpriced... If you absolutely must get the Lian Li, then you can save like $20 on the PSU by getting the 450W XClio with dual +12V rails at Newegg. It's a great PSU made by a reputable manufacturer, and it's pretty cheap too. 450W is more than enough.

The Saitek keyboard is great. I got one from Newegg and am completely satisfied even though I spend $55 on the thing.

Sorry i posted the wrong link for the case, it was just an option.

dont have a link for the tower =/ it has a link from that text in Word but.. =/

also im not getting anything from Monarch because the shipping is ridiculously high.. i live in alaska..

Its 28$ shipping , no joke, just for that card. So its $280 or total by the time it gets here so it really isnt that much of a difference.. #4 or $5 maybe.

Also, whats wrong with the memory? Yes I need 2 GB so I can run Battlefield2 as flawless as I can and for future games . I dont update often .

Like I said I live in Alaska, soooo any little bit helps seeing as my lowest pings are like 90-120 .. =\
