I put an ad on craigslist for my laptop, this person responded asking for details,

I know its not recommended to sell stuff on craigslist that involves shipping, I will not be selling it to her, but I am curios. This is the reply I got from her

Thanks for emailing me with the amount you are asking for the unit. I would like to come IN PERSON and pickup the unit in CASH for my Son schooling in a college but can be done if you are nearby Anchorage area in Alaska because i work at an ORPHANAGE (Alaska Children's Services) home helping children whose parents are not there for them.

If it happens you are not near Anchorage area, it's advisable i mail you a normal momey order via my United States Postal Service (USPS) account since they offer protection between the seller and buyer inorder not to get ripped off. This order will arrive at your residence OR mail box. Right after payment has been received, i can then go ahead and make arrangement on how to get the unit shipped directly to my Son using company's fedex account # so it can be charged.

If you're willing to accept my form of payment, will have you provide me your full name and mailing addres if possible your phone # just to know where money order will arrive after receiving the payment notification email confirm payment made on your auction. Will look forward to your mailing informations inorder to finalize on payment immediately. Thanks.

I will make an offer of $XXX.XX just for correct packaging material such as crumpled paper, bubble wrap and/or styrofoam "peanuts" arround the unit just to avoid shifting after it's in transit to it's destination. My advise for you as a seller is to delete the posting off craigslist so as not to allow other buyer to bid on it.

Facility Name : Alaska Children's Services
Address : 4600 Abbott Road
City, ST Zip : Anchorage, AK 99507

based on text i would say scam.

Not to mention you don't send MO's via a USPS account AND they offer protection for nobody.

too many details for an initial reply for it to be legit. And too many suspect details: Anchorage (or course it would be inconvenient for most to do a local pickup). Orphanage...seriously, wtf?

"Advise to you is to delete posting." WTF is that? scam.

Its craigslist.

if a response is longer than:

"Will you take $XX for it? Let me know. call me at &&&&&&&&&&"

then it is fake.

Besides, when is the next time you'll be in Anchorage? And FYI, ACS isn't an orphanage. It's a rehab type center for mentally challenged kids.

I was coming in to say this, if it involves money exchanging over the internets then yes, it is a scam.

Respond back, "Holy Shit, I too work at Alaska Children's Services and I can bring it in to work with me" and make up a story and see how they respond to that.

So how would the scam work? If he replies and says, send me a money order for $1500 and then he gets a money order... then what? Is (s)he going to steal his underwear?

Do it, or say that you can personally meet her in Anchorage at any place any time today because you have the week off of work.

Or google it and pick a place 25 miles or so away so he doesn't look you up in an employee directory.
