A moderate what? ;)

I don't hate old people, but I do think SS is a collosal waste and not something the gov't should be involving themselves with.

Well, you can write-in Timothy Leary, then.

Sure but they are a dying breed. There is very little tolerance for non liberal viewpoints in the party of tolerance. Name that immediately comes to mind would be Zell Miller from Georgia. While not a hard line conservative by any stretch of the imagination he is about as far right as it gets in the party of tolerance on foreign policy issues anyway. He is in fact one of the few democrats that i could get behind and vote for and stay fairly close to my core beliefs on political issues.

Is there such thing as a non-neocon Republican? Seriously, why all the shouts of "neo-con"? Or are the words interchangeable?

This isn't mocking you Gaard - but it brings up a rather decent point which people have tried to make before. Some people throw around "neo-con" and have no understanding of the word. I happen to know the difference between a democrat and a liberal and most of the time I use "left" to describe them as a whole. Liberals are easy to spot - Democrats sometimes are not , depending on how "moderate" they are.
IMO ofcourse.

Charrison brings up a good point about the DLC. "The Conservative wing of the Democrat party" :p

Yes, that's a good point also.

Can we agree that you aren't automatically a Liberal if you are anti-Bush...and by the same token you aren't automatically a neocon if you are for Bush?

Why don't you also agree that just because someone supports a strong American foreign policy doesn't mean they're a neocon either.

Sure, just as long as we can accept that supporting a strong American foreign policy does not mean one accepts either the Iraqi war or it's premise.

Conservative: sticks to known ideas tradition, or uses new ideas to support them.
Liberal: embrace new ideas, often at the expense of what already works.
Now for the government, compare those with humanism and empirialism (empirialism as a philosophy). There easy come out four types, though conservative republicans and liberal democrats will be more common right now.

There are plenty of extreme liberals, they just can't get elected anymore. Remember that being a politician isn't about advancing your own personal beliefs, it's about getting elected. If you can't win as a liberal democrat you need to position yourself as a moderate democrat. After all, it's much better to sacrifice your beliefs than it is to lose.

Just look at Howard Dean. The American people have spoken, they can tolerate Democrats, but they hate liberals.
