Humidity.

On average, workers tend to work slower.

People are a lot more phony - in the North, an a**hole will let you know he's an a**hole. But, in the south, they'll pretend to be nice.

Food - Can anyone south of the Mason-Dixon line make good pizza? It doesn't seem like it. Oh, and FYI, buffalo wings are supposed to be served with blue cheese, not ranch dressing. Don't give me that idiotic look like you've never heard of such a thing. Beef on weck, anyone? Any southern food worth eating can easily be found in the Northeast. Grits, on the other hand, can not be ordered in any restaurant in the northeast.

Education in many of the southern states... Apparently it's not that important. That's why so many of us Yankees end up moving south - employers are desperate for hard working educated people. (I put my resume online for New York, North Carolina, and South Carolina. 5 months after I began teaching, I still received phone calls every week, "Mr. <last name>, hi, I'm from <school district in NC or SC>. We have an opening for a math teacher. You start Monday. We'll pay your moving expenses. Pretty please?" (I'm not kidding - I almost wish I was.)

Red dirt.

Southerners don't make homemade fresh maple syrup. You've got a pancake house for every 10 residents, but you can't get real maple syrup in a single one of them. (Yeah, this is the second part on food, but most people eat a couple meals a day.)

that pretty much sums it up....People in MA do not pretend to care. if we don't care. we just don't care and we do not sugar coat it. People in the south really tend to care what people think of them, so they come off as nicer. My gf is from the south and she is always worried about how people will see her if she does certain things. I just say hell with it and if they do not like what I do, then they can can shove it ;). That said, people in both parts can be major a$$holes. you cannot avoid that no matter where you live.

Seriously: I never hear anything bad about the Southern US. Is there anything bad?

IE: Northeast = Cold, rude people, etc.

Hahaha.. I hope this is a joke.

Also, in NY, when you go to a park, people are friendly and talk to you.. here in Florida everyone keeps to themselves.. definitely a lot less friendly.

Dumb northerners are just as dumb as dumb Southerners. Except that there are more of the dummies up north. The north=more people total, so you have more dummies, too.
But I'd be willing to bet the percentages aren't much different.

Plus, ya'll don't know how to drive....you don't know the rules of the road...years of driving tests have proven that northerners tend to score lower on driving tests.

Have you tried driving in Florida?

Raleigh, NC
Beach, 2hrs...check..not to mention you can enjoy the beach for much more of the year
Mountains, 2hrs, check
Snow, occasionally, just enough, sometimes even a lot, (20" in 2000) check.

You were saying?

Put it like this: I was at the lake on my boat all weekend, 80+ degrees, in April. Try that in New England.

1. Florida isn't part of the South anymore.
2. That's mostly the old yankees down there that are causing those problems. Try finding an actual Florida native these days. Same thing is starting to happen here in NC. All the yankees are moving down here in droves.

I don't like making generalizations, but in the Kentucky/Tennessee area, the people are less accepting of non-whites. Also, the food sucks - everything is fried, no real variety of food (all tastes the same). At least in the Northeast, I can get food from almost any ethnic background by walking a few blocks.

When I was in Austin, TX, I was appalled at how well the drivers followed driving laws. Every driver stopped behind the stop line at all stops even at 2 in the morning when there was no traffic, no pedestrians. Nobody did the rolling stop either, it was the complete stop. Again, food was boring, and there was a lot of land with almost nothing to do.

Big bugs and crazy hot summer - otherwise to quote a bumper sticker "I wasn't born in Texas but I got here as fast as I could".

Hard to characterize Florida as a whole - northern Florida has most of your native Floridians, very much Bible belt territory. Southern Florida has your transplants from the North, large immigrant population. Then you have central Florida, which is your culturally vapid Mickey Mouse territory.

It's nice to see, however, that he's really pushing for them to succeed... :)

I live in south carolina.. have for over 25 years.. Only problem I'm aware of is too many damn yankees... This place is backwards as hell, hot and humid, full of mosquitos, tics, snakes, and fire ants. My advice would be for no one to EVER move here, let alone visit... Don't forget thar the NAACP is boycotting us for having the balls to fly the confederate flag on the statehouse grounds next to the confederate monument. All the stereotypes you've read are true.. except that here you cant get a divorce and still be brother and sister.... that's only in WEST VA. You can however still be second cousins.. but thats true in most states so nothin special there.
Best thing I can suggest if you wanna live in the south is move to Fla, Ga, NC, or maybe even TN. But I would definatly NOT reccomend SC

YANKEE= northerner that comes to visit

DAMN YANKEE= one that comes to wisit AND STAYS

Why is there more concentrations of blacks down south then?

Aren't they mostly in the metro areas like atlanta though? Those places are kinda different.

While there area lot of blacks in Atlanta, they're all over the south. IIRC, there was an article about how many of them moved back south because they felt more comfortable down here. See, even though a lot of them moved north after slavery was abolished, many..many of them stayed.

Believe it or not, northerners move down here and open up restaurants. I know its shocking, but true. I have two choices of great pizza from families who have fairly recently moved down from the NE. I also grew up going to a restaurant that was started by transplants from Buffalo, NY. They had great wings.

Apparently education isn't that important? are you kidding me? It was huge in my area. If you weren't going to college after HS, you were clearly looked down upon.

You want the real reason that you were offered teaching jobs so quickly? The population is booming. We need teachers because new schools are popping up about as fast the hundreds of thousands of homes.

Red dirt? It is called clay, and yes it sucks.

You put us down for not making maple syrup? Are you really that dense?

Dont lie to yourself, education levels in the south are consistently lower than the north/west. Plus rarely do things like this: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2446354 happen in the north

There's something wrong with every square inch of the United States, regardless of whether you're black, white, southern, northern, eastern, western, dark side, jedi, educated, uneducated, man or woman. If you're an American, there's something wrong with you.

Actually, let's extend that to apply worldwide.
