I was just reading the parasite thread and started thinking about the pineworm. It's only means of survival is if it comes out of your rectum, make you scratch your ass and eventually put your hand in your mouth or nose or whatever. What I want to know is, how does it know to do that? How/when did it become ingrained in its DNA that if it does A, B will happen? I don't think parasites can think so it must be by some design. Also, I saw a dog taking a shit today. After it was done, it started smelling a small tree. Then, by design, it started putting dirt on the shit. However, it was doing it in the wrong direction since it had moved to smell the tree. I don't think the dog was thinking about this either.
Third, the guinea worm. It secretes something so that the person gets a burning feeling and seeks water. That allows the worm to get out of the body and into a body of water. Again, I don't think the worm is thinking this through completely. There must be some other actor. Also, how do these habit get ingrained into DNA? I doubt that they are 'taught' by peers. Anyone else ever think about this?
