just a joke~ pretty friendly and nothing major, and this is my best friend anyways so i won't i won't create an enemy. but i'm wondering if it is possible to change who an e-mail is from. Wouldi have to send the message first, and then edit it on his computer, or could i "fake" the address that was sent and have it stick what i want instead of my real address? i can get physical access to his computer if i have to-->and he uses thunderbird for his e-mail program.

But reather than have

FROM: me@myrealadress.com
TO: him@hisreadallress.com
SUBJECT: Something Funny

I would prefer

FROM: a_totallydifferentaders@hahahahfunny.com
to be that instead

does that make sense? can anyone help me out? Like i said, if i need access to his computer to do it, that isn't too much of an issue~ but the stealth factor would obviosly be hard to do since i woul dneed to downlod the message~ would be much cooler if i could just spoof it from my location and let him discover it on his own rather than me "oh hey look at this e-mail you got!" since the beleivabiliy factor would increase by 10 XD

thanks guys

Just change your From name to whatever address you want it to reflect.

We did that in Java class when we were building our email client. I don't remember how though.

how about someone with minimal proramming experience ;) I used to do loads of html (and was good at it), quickbasic and some vb on my own, but that isn't anywhere near as advanced as i would need to do java or any other interesting languages out there...

i guess i'm loking for "quick and dirty" more than anything else~

and mougal montser~~ i also want the E-mail itself to change. Not just my name, but also the outgoing e=mail

Or get some of those e-mail programs that make it look like it came from a different email addy :p

Used those awhile ago so not sure if they are still around as much.

what kind of e-mail client are you using?

If its something like yahoo.com, you can change the reply to: e-mail in the options. and it will show up as that e-mail address in the recevers inbox.

If you are using a outlook express, or similar program, you can do the same to the reply to: field.

It should work for what you are trying to do.

Edit: I just tested this. doesn't work they way I was expecting.
Edit: If you are not expecting him to scrutinize the e-mail address, it might for for the joke.

Uh... just change the settings in your e-mail program.

Edit: Ask in the software forum, and tell us what e-mail software you use if you expect to get an answer.

i tried your advice of "direct mailing program" but i find things...that i can buy

Can't you just do what Mr. DingleDangle said and make up a hotmail or yahoo account? That's what I'm planning on doing when I pull my prank;)

he probably wants the guy to think it came from another known address.

foxmail is a direct mailer, check teh university's IT website, i'll probably list the mail servers there.
