I was thinking about this the other day: What the hell is there in Nebraska?

Western Nebraska is really pretty.

Indeed, I go on an annual hunting trip out there with a few of my uncles and father.

Living in southwest, center, and northeast Iowa I would have to say I wouldnt miss this state much. Though, bluffs around the Mississippi are really great to hike in and awesome looking when the leaves start falling.

most of the states that touch appalachia.. MS, AL, GA, WV, NC, SC, TN, KY... I'll spare the north bits. ;)

Thanks for sparing Ohio :)
but honestly, as much as the Appalachia region sucks... hard... a shit ton of coal is mined there.

You can make bourbon anywhere. And actually, with Kentucky gone the rest of us would get Kentucky Bluegrass, the Kentucky Derby and "Kentucky Woman" back.

saying "you can make bourbon anywhere" is like saying "you can make champagne anywhere"

it isn't quite the same

besides, we have the cooperage here that creates the charred white oak barrels that, if gone, would be impossible to reproduce :p

also the limestone water

Serious answer - MICHIGAN! Nobody ever needs anything from MI anymore. Bye-Bye mitten state. The salt mines have been closed for a while, they do some various metal mining, but not a lot. Detroit hasn't been a hotbed of automotive activity in nigh on 30 years. We might miss the funny talking people you think are Canadian at first but turn out to be yoopers, but not for long.

Any state that can't figure out how to make a left hand turn shouldn't be a state.

Delaware.

Say goodbye to corporate america. We'll gladly form our own country and continue to collect your corporate taxes.

Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, West Virginia.

On the assumption that whatever the state is currently involved in producing would not be moved to the remaining 49 states, you would miss Alabama.

You would miss your Toyota truck engines.
You would miss most of the missile systems in use by the Armed Forces
You would miss a chunk of the space program
You would miss certain Mercedes vehicles
You would miss having your Army and SWAT teams trained in bomb disposal
You would miss eating chicken
You would miss some of your cotton clothing (and anything else made with cotton)
You would miss some really good college football :)
You would miss your pine lumber at Home Depot/Lowe's/etc

Alabama ranks 25th in terms of the national GDP, yet the entire state is less than 5 million in population.
alabama is 23 in population and 25th in gdp then?

Michigan could go away and no one would notice. Not even those of us that live here.

While Michigan does suck major ass a ton of manufacturing is still here. Big 3 is still around... Some area's have mile after mile of tool and die and fabrication shops. Michigan also has cherries and apples and well thats it I think lol. I'd think arkansas or alabama could go? Maybe north dakota?

How about Conneticut? It's contribution to the rest of the US is so insignificant, most of us forget that it even exists.

Rhode Island, Delaware, New Hampshire aren't far behind. Vermont can stay because of their kick-ass maple syrup.
