Interesting map comparing state GDP to other countries ...

http://strangemaps.wordpress.c...ies-with-similar-gdps/

Haha, Ohio's equal to an entire continent.

Which also just happens to be one country where most of the population is on the coastal regions, leaving much of the country empty desert.

kind of like the US, no? population and culture on the coasts, empty wasteland between? ;)

The Dakotas and maybe Vermont/New Hampshire.

If we need nukes, we still have the nuclear submarines.

most of the states that touch appalachia.. MS, AL, GA, WV, NC, SC, TN, KY... I'll spare the north bits. ;)

Thanks for sparing Ohio :)
but honestly, as much as the Appalachia region sucks... hard... a shit ton of coal is mined there.

very few states have kick-ass beaches (warm = swimmable), hills, and mountains. I give you NC.

also, the best college basketball (lest we forget Michael Jordan, and the greatest college bball player ever: David Thompson) and the best BBQ in the country, without a doubt. ;)

We're also the mecca of weed in the US. Our only rival being Northern CA in terms of annual production, and high quality at that. :)

Oh, moonshine & Bluegrass capital of the country, as well. And even though I despise it, I'm sure most of you "fly-over-staters" would miss the birthplace of NASCAR and Richard Petty. Charlotte is a huge banking area, and RTP is huge in research and tech: Glaxo, IBM, Google is now out there, NIEHS, Nortel, etc.

Texas, nothing good ever came from Texas.

Well you need your steers so you can have your BBQ and hambergers, and well you know all about the queers.

you need pork for BBQ; steer need not apply. it sucks in Texas, anyway.

Interesting thread, should have done a poll as that would have tallied some thoughts,...

NY is first though the whole Northeast is a waste,... Alaska (who goes there in all honesty)

the wanna be states of Washington DC I think we would all like to get rid of,.. and Puerto Rico

Being from Texas I think it is silly to wish that Texas went away. Holds practically the entire world's supply of helium, tremendous amount of agriculture, oil refinery, NASA mission control, like California the economy in Texas can be measured as part of the entire global economy, and something to note for this time of the year there are huge amounts of natural gas that is mined and sent to the northern states so people don't freeze in winter.

I don't think I've ever seen a thread so full of dumbassery on Anandtech before.

Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, West Virginia.

On the assumption that whatever the state is currently involved in producing would not be moved to the remaining 49 states, you would miss Alabama.

You would miss your Toyota truck engines.
You would miss most of the missile systems in use by the Armed Forces
You would miss a chunk of the space program
You would miss certain Mercedes vehicles
You would miss having your Army and SWAT teams trained in bomb disposal
You would miss eating chicken
You would miss some of your cotton clothing (and anything else made with cotton)
You would miss some really good college football :)
You would miss your pine lumber at Home Depot/Lowe's/etc

Alabama ranks 25th in terms of the national GDP, yet the entire state is less than 5 million in population.

So, what I'm taking from this is that there really isn't anything we'd miss...

Yep, he proved my point without even knowing it.

whoa whoa whoa! I mean, I know we got some chicken farms in NC, but we're more of a pork state (#1 by a long shot)....but I'll be damned if losing all or even one of these states deprives me of my glorious fried chicken!

I'll even arm myself if need be! :|
