um.. maria is only 18, and laura is 30. See the 12 age difference? well when laura was 18, maria was 6 (holding teh 12 age difference) and that is 3x. Now, in two years laura will be 32, and she will be double the age of maria two years ago (16).

Laura is 3 times as old as Maria was when Laura was as old as Maria is now. So when laura was 12, marie was 6, right? Laura is NOW 3X as old as marie was then which is 3 X 6 = 18. Now for the second part in two years laura is 20. Subtract two years from marie's current age = 10, thus 20/2 = 10.
