I find the idea of an open ps3 intriguing, but I don't know if I'd really utilize it. From what I understand it allows you to run unsigned code, which could let you run homebrew programs, burn games to hard drive (quicker game loading?), and burn games to discs (hardcopy backup?). While homebrew programs could be interesting (perhaps a functional web browser), I don't see much benefit for the other two besides pirating. Quick game loads would actually be pretty nice, but I don't think there's as much need for backups considering that blu-rays are supposed to be more resilient.
Basically, what cool things could you do with a hacked ps3 that isn't pirating?
