Is the GameCube right for me? Or the Xbox?

I don't really want both, just one or the other (have a Dreamcast)

My main concerns are price and games. I don't want many games, I'm PC gaming mostly. So maybe a console game every other month, or maybe just when a huge one comes out (Halo, Metroid, etc.)

Quality over quantity most definately. Also want to know about prices. I wouldn't mind buying used games if in good shape. Which console tends to have the cheaper prices new and used? Which are on clearance more often?

Online play really isn't a big deal since I don't there are that many games that would appeal to me. I like Raven Shield, BF1942, UT2003, etc. Doesn't seem like anything on the Xbox would match up as far as number of players or easy of control. Though the voice thing sounds cool. Plus this would be just me playing on my 20" TV next to my computer. Wouldn't want to play on the 32" Wega (never played my DC when I had it hooked up over there)

The other thing about the Xbox is so many damn titles are going to be on the PC. Halo (which I've kinda lost interest in), Splinter Cell, etc. I really want Rallisport Challenge and find a PC demo last night. Well with my hot deal work I've nabbed it for $15. No way can it be that cheap on the Xbox :( I'd put up with ocassional graphics problems to save $20-$25.

I really would like Mortal Kombat. Does this come out on the Gamecube or Xbox/PS2 only?

And does Target have the Mario Sunshine bundle? Does it come with a memory card? I was looking at that deal. $189+$20 for Metroid=$209-$5 coupon-$20 GiftCard (if it works)=$184. That's really hard to pass up.

The Xbox deal is $185 with Sega GT and JSRF. I really didn't like JSRF, but really would like GT.

Are we looking at price cuts anytime soon?

I'm not going to comment on which one is better for you since I really don't know.

There is a Gamecube bundle/deal in Hot deals which gets you Metroid, Mario Sunshine and the Gamecube all for less than $200 at Target.

Metroid is the best game yet on the Cube, and it feels innovative... can't really put my finger on what makes it so great but its different from any other game I've played. I really love it... I've already freaked out a couple times when sh1t pops up out of nowhere.

Mario Sunshine is fun, but nothing spectacular. You just play it for the sake of playing it, you're not too into it... but its not boring per se.

My gaming is primarily on the computer, so I like the Cube because it has the fun party type games which the computer doesnt have. Mario Party, Super Monkey Ball w/ Mario Sunshine and Metroid.

Mortal Kombat is available on all 3 consoles.

And hey, if you ever wanted to play Gameboy Advance games you can on your TV soon. That will be truly awesome.

I think we've hit most of the price cuts that we'll see for a while

Gamecube in the long run will be cheaper overall (games and console wise). I think there will be more games that are Gamecube exclusive than Xbox exclusive. You are right, a lot of Xbox games come to the PC eventually (also true with the PS2)

I have both so its hard to tell. Right now there are a lot of good games for all systems so its a big toss up and you can't really go wrong.

From what you've said though I'd say go for the Gamecube and buy the Target Prime/cube package. Metroid Prime is the king of console games right now.

Welp I made my decision. Couldn't get the $20 GC.

$205 for the console, Metroid Prime, Super Mario Sunshine, and a memory card. Not shabby.

The games at Target were really cheap. $29 for Rogue Leader. $28 each for Resident Evil, Pikmin, Eternal Darkness, Rogue Leader, Luigi, Wave Race. Mortal Kombat was $49-$10 Gift Card.

Yay!

All I will say is that every console has good games whether fanboys of one system want to believe their "enemy" does or not. I don't have a GC so I really can't say much about it other than its hardware is better than the PS2 and the current big game is Metroid Prime. I have had an Xbox since launch and they are great systems (not to mention the bundle package is a great deal). If you do decide to get an Xbox, you will have to get Live since I look at it as an exclusive feature that neither the PS2 or GC can match (it is really cool feature).

Edit: I was too late to the punch I see.

I almost sold my GC for an XBOX to play live. I played Metroid a little by my friends. I can't give it up now.
I retracted my EBAY auction.
Yes, I can have both consoles but I still have my DC running and being used often.
I can't justify 3 consoles at once. I just can't have it.
Get a GC if you want good stuff.

I have both systems and a PC. They are both good systems...but for you I would say go for a GC.

You HAVE GOT TO PLAY METROID!

Metroid stomps Halo..in fact I would say that an argument could be made for Metroid being the BEST game EVER. I dont think there is any doubt at all that its game of the year. So with that said and you seem to be l.eaning towards a GC anyway I wouldent hesitate...get the Gamecube. Im am not a fanboy, I dont thing you would be sorry ya got either system.

But again...you MUST play Metroid....

Yeah haven't opened it yet but have no regrets. I'll probably grab an Xbox early next year or if there is a price drop. The live thing is interesting, but I do too much online gaming on the computer. Hard to break an old habit :(

Thanks for the tips. Plan on going back and grabbing a few more games. Wonder if Rogue Leader can be found for less than $29 since it's so old.

Try the FS/FT boards :) You could probably get Rogue Leader for $20-$25 shipped.

What exactly do Metroid and Halo have in common? They are two totally different games, both great in their own right. Quit trying to make one out to be better than the other and just enjoy the games.

I honestly don't think Gamecube is going to survive through 2003. The X-Box is outselling it by a large margin in every single market except for Japan (big surprise there). Third party support for Gamecube is dying by the day, online plans are a fantasy. The last few supposed system sellers (Mario Sunshine, Starfox Adventures) have all been marketplace duds. Metroid Prime is too little, too late to save this doomed console.

Umm, it's still total sales, and the fact that Xbox is losing money every console they sell.

Yeah but MS doesn't care. They just pumped another $2 billion into the xbox I believe. Xbox is finally starting to get a good amount of great games.

Halo is an old game dude. For all we know, the developers could've used Halo as an example of a great first person shooter on console, and try to improve upon it. The time difference between the two games are too great to compare them as rivals (still don?t stop people from doing it though).

What you should be glad about is that it is (according to you) better, cause they had enough time to perfect Metroid. If it wasn't better or say equal to Halo, then it would've been a huge disappointment.
