Is the 'Freshman 15' a real phenomenon? Did you gain weight in college?

I'm 5'8", 125 lb. Granted, I'm naturally skinny, and my quick metabolism helps me keep my weight down (it's tough for me to gain weight no matter what). But, I've noticed that I do TONS of walking in college and I've got a hard time believing that many freshmen end up gaining weight.

I'd say I walk 2-3 miles in a given day, and I usually run 2-3 miles about 3 times a week. It's more walking than I've ever done in my life, and while I've run further and more often, I still feel like I'm in shape. It's been about a week since I weighed myself but I really haven't gained any weight.

Did any of you get the 'Freshman 15' in college?

No I was a bone in the military and in college. Instead I gained the marriage 30 when I quit smoking and got married.

15? I gained 50 between the middle of my freshman year and the end of my sophomore year.

But then again I went from running an average of 7 miles a day, 6 days a week to doing nothing, while still maintaining the 4000 calorie a day diet that I had while running. That'll do it in no time :(

Did pull myself back together though and dropped off 25 of that 50 through pretty rigorous weight training and cardio.

I didn't gain any weight, but I know quite a few friends who did. They tended to also drink heavily which is the main cause of gaining weight.

In fact, I gained more weight my first year after college working a desk job because I stopped walking around everywhere. Now I spend 4 days in the gym trying to get rid of it.

Gained about 20, buddy of mine gained ~30lbs. At college the food choices were total crap, you could pay ~$7 for all you can eat (and usually eat way too much) or you could go to wendy's, subway, taco bell, arby's, or a pizza place and get just about anything you want. The food at the all you can eat place was pretty bad, so we ate a lot of fast food in order to use our alloted money for food ($686/semester, and I went home about every weekend cause I hated my roomate, so I was only really eating on campus about 9 times a week). That was walking close to a mile every day, sometimes two.

I moved out into a house, started cooking for myself, and lost all the weight I gained.

I weighed 190 going into college at the end of my freshman year I weighed 180 and stayed that way until my Junior year when I moved off campus and drove to school instead of walking. By the time I graduated 2 years later I had gained 30lbs.

The freshmen 15 is in reference to the women. Men usually put on the marriage 30.

I went from 120 to 135 my "freshman" year at college - but that was a community college, I was 15, and I didn't leave home. Dropped that weight before I turned 18. My first year away at college, I went from 120 to 105.

I got the college 15, and the marriage 30. :|

My mother is one of the worst cooks in the world, so when I got to college, the food was remarkably better than I had been eating. I lifted weights for a while in my junior/senior year of college, and soon after that went through a divorce. That got me back down to within 10 lbs or so of my college entrance weight.

But then I remarried. I went *back* to the gym in for two non-consecutive years after college, but never got down to the college entrance weight again (but within 15lbs at one point). Now I'm way WAY up and I don't like to think about it much.

I don't drink much beer/other alcohol, so I should be cool, I guess. None of those extra calories.

I went to college as a twig weighing 135, after my sophmore year I was at 175. I actually looked healthy instead of like a twig. My part time job while in college was delivering furniture so a lot of that was muscle :). (plus a little bit of a beer gut :D)
