Is the 2012 Audi TT-S fast?

Because it didn't seem all that fast this morning when some guy driving one tried to leave me in his dust.

I was on the bike of course. 😉

Not sure why guys in cars even bother messing with bikes. :whiste:

TT-RS? Probably comparable to my MR2 on race gas. Not slow, but not fast compared to a bike.

There's at least one car on the board who could give you a good run, though. 😛

It's really not even fast for a sports car. Not sure what he was thinking trying to race a sports bike. Hell a 2011/2012 V6 Mustang would give it a good race and most likely beat it.

Ahh, I was looking at the TT-RS. TT-S is 4.9 sec to 60, but I can't find a 1/4mi time. I'd guess probably high 13's? Yeah, far from "fast" today.

I think you actually confused TT-S with regular TT. TT-S can do 0-60 in 5.3s (according to Edmunds' test), while V6 Mustang with Performance package does 5.6s (again, according to Edmunds').

Also, consider TT-S comes with DCT and AWD, which means literally anyone can put their right foot on acc pedal and achieve 5.3s, while with Mustang, you should know how to use your left foot and right hand in order to achieve 5.6s.

But I agree about what he was thinking trying to race a sport bike and TT-S is not uber super fast sports car this day.. Since most family sedan with V6 can do low 6s.

Fast is relative.

A bike's scale of slow to fast is set MUCH higher than a car's scale of slow to fast.

But, people are dumb, they have no clue about the world of motorcycles.

No, I actually went straight to Audi's site for the information. As you pointed out, most of the TT-S's advantage comes from a launch from stand still since it is AWD. Racing from a roll probably puts the Mustang (V6) and the Audi TT-S neck and neck. I say racing from a roll, because that's most likely what happened here. I could be wrong though.

Either way, I sure as hell wouldn't consider it fast. Especially not for $50K+.

Relative to a 3 legged horse? Yes
Relative to a Bugatti Veyron? No

Errm... Not sure about the point of this thread.

What bike? my Z can pull a 600 without too much trouble 😉

it's all relative, but the new TT is pretty fast

i watched the drags last friday. the bikes were plenty, one buell was making schwinns out of the drag bikes. it was still barely under 11 sec 1/4 mile tho. most of the other vehicles were from 19+ to 10 seconds. except for one truck, a 32 ford. that sucker was quiet, whiny and FAST. 9.17 1/4 mile, it was wicked cool to watch. my friends 64 jetstar did 13.4. it weighs a few ton tho, so i was surprised at that low. i was figuring high 13s with street tires and all that weight to it.

The TT-S is a pretty fast car compared to standard sedans and coupes that most people buy. Its not 'fast' if you are comparing it to sports cars, but should be pretty quick to drive.

you'd think being down hugely on HP/weight they'd learn 😉

Which can corner faster, the Audi TT-S or the OP's bike?

I'm a decent rider, not crazy but decent. The thing with bikes is that if you make a mistake it might mean your life (brought to you by captain obvious) but in a car you just bin your $50,000 Audi. Still, not a lot of guys are willing to bin a $50,000 Audi so it might still be close.

Unfortunately, my commute doesn't take me over Palomar Mountain so we couldn't find out the answer to that question. 😛
